Scholarship application due
Friday
The Hermiston Education Foundation
and Family Health Associates teamed up
to offer several scholarships to Hermiston
High School seniors.
Important factors in evaluating appli-
cants are academic scholarship, commu-
nity service, leadership, financial need
and a commitment to wellness. The avail-
able scholarships include $1,000 for a stu-
dent who has participated in intern service
at Family Health Associates, $500 for stu-
dents planning to pursue a career in the
healthcare field and $1,000 to a student
who has demonstrated a commitment to
wellness during their high school career.
Applications are available at the HHS
counseling office. They must be submitted

Ceremony recognizes Vietnam-
era veterans
A special recognition and pinning
ceremony recognizing all those who
served in the U.S. Armed Forces
during the United States’ involvement
in Vietnam is planned at Jonathan M.
Wainwright Memorial VA Medical
Center.
All area veterans and their families
are invited to attend Thursday from 2-4
p.m. in the center’s Theater Building,
77 Wainwright Drive, Walla Walla.
Associate director Ray Crawford will
provide a special lapel pin to each
Vietnam veteran who has not previously
received one. Cake and punch will be
served.
The March 29 date marks the point
when the last U.S. troops left South
Vietnam, which ended America’s direct
military involvement in 1973. According
to the Department of Veterans Affairs,
9 million Americans served during
the Vietnam War and approximately 7
million were living as of December 2017.

IMAC serves Saturday breakfast
A home-cooked breakfast will help
support the Irrigon Multicultural Arts
Center. The fundraising meal is Saturday
from 7:30-10:30 a.m. at Stokes Landing
Senior Center, 150 Columbia Lane, Irri-
gon. The cost is $4.50 per person.
The group is dedicated to preserving
Irrigon’s 1921 school building and devel-

Umatilla announces spring
cleanup event
The annual Community Clean Up
Week is just around the corner in Umatilla.
The event is Saturday, April 7 at 9 a.m.,
with McNary-area volunteers meeting at
the Port of Umatilla office, 500 Willamette
St., and downtown and South Hill volun-
teers gathering at Umatilla City Hall, 700
Sixth St. Dumpsters will be placed around
the community free of charge for disposal
of yard waste, junk, debris, etc.
Umatilla residents are encouraged to
tidy up their property and help neighbors
with spring outdoor cleaning. All volun-
teers will be treated to a barbecue lunch
at noon at Village Square Park. For more
