Workshop provides suicide intervention techniques A two-day interac- tive workshop in suicide first aid is being offered in Hermiston. Applied Suicide Interven- tion Skills Training (ASIST) teaches participants to rec- ognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to cre- ate a plan to support their immediate safety. Partici- pants don’t need any formal training to attend the work- shop — anyone 16 or older can learn to use the ASIST model. The workshop is Jan. 22-23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd Medical Center, 610 N.W. 11th St., Hermiston. A sub- sidized registration fee is made possible by the Gar- rett Lee Smith Youth Suicide Prevention Grant. Hosted by Umatilla County Public Health, the cost is $75.
