Hermiston police to expand Facebook presence
HERMISTON HERALD
Hermiston residents can
expect to see more Face-
book posts from their police
department.
Chief Jason Edmis-
ton said starting Jan. 2 the
Hermiston Police Depart-
ment’s three on-call supervi-
sors — Captain Scott Clark,
Captain Travis Eynon and
Lieutenant Randy Stude-
baker — will be responsible
for one social media post
per day for each week they
are on call.
The posts might be about
an arrest, a crime preven-
tion tip, a weather advisory
or something else to further
public safety and awareness
related to the department’s
activities.
“We will respect con-
stitutional rights and try to
ensure we honor our crim-
inal justice system where
a person is innocent until
proven guilty by using
words such as ‘alleged’ or
‘suspected’ but our goal
will be to remain factual,”
Edmiston wrote in a news
release. “We will honor the
First Amendment which
gives a citizen the right to
agree with something we
have posted or disagree.
We will likely not engage
in discussions further than
the original post unless the
engagement is to clarify or
assist.”
Many police departments
have used social media in
recent years to put a friendly
face on the department or
provide warnings of crime
trends. Edmiston said a con-
cerned citizen contacted
Man shot, alleges he was kidnapped
Police believe a man was
kidnapped and shot Thurs-
day in rural Morrow County.
The 48-year-old man
from Eugene was discovered
about 7:30 a.m. in a vehicle
at Love’s Truck Stop, west
of Boardman. He was suf-
fering from a single gunshot
wound and was transported
to Good Shepherd Medi-
cal Center, Hermiston, for
treatment.
According to Oregon
State Police, a preliminary
investigation revealed the
victim was shot at another
location and transported to
Love’s by a citizen who was
waved down by the victim
on Interstate 84 near mile-
post 151.
The victim alleges to
have been kidnapped and
dropped off near that area,
by abductors in a maroon
van who fled the scene in an
unknown direction. Accord-
ing to police, there is no evi-
dence at this time indicating
there is a threat to the gen-
eral public regarding this
incident.
Anyone who may have
witnessed any suspicious
circumstances or observed
the victim and suspect vehi-
cle on Interstate 84 near
milepost 151 Thursday
morning are asked to call the
Oregon State Police South-
ern Command Dispatch
Center at 1-541-664-4600
and reference case number

iston woman’s arrest, but
Edmiston said the law lim-
its government entities from
“picking and choosing who

as the department expands

Woman walks out of salon, restaurant without paying
HERMISTON HERALD
Hermiston
Police
arrested a local woman for
theft of services at two local
businesses on Wednesday,
Dec. 20.
Officers arrested Lyn-
zee Crane, 20, for nega-
tively impacting two local
businesses. According to a
press release, Crane went
into the Styling Arena on
Hermiston Avenue to get
her hair colored, and then
said she needed to retrieve
money from her vehicle to
pay for the $100 service.
Crane then went outside
and did not return. Shortly
after, Hermiston Police
were called by Stockman’s
Steakhouse on North First
Street. Employees said
Crane had left the restau-
rant without paying for $53
worth of food. She used a
story similar to the one at
the salon and fled.
Officers found Crane
at a residence in Uma-
tilla, charged her with two
counts of theft, and lodged
her in the Umatilla County
Jail. Crane had charges
from earlier this year for
identity theft and fraudu-
lent use of a credit card.
