Forrest “Woody” Star-
rett, 93, of Hermiston
passed away on Sunday,
September 24, 2017.
Woody was born
November 13, 1923,
in Portland, Oregon,
the son of James
and Josie (Kennedy)
Starrett. He lived in
Dayville throughout
his childhood where Starrett
he attended school
and
graduated
from high school
in the early 1940s.
After high school,
he served in the
U.S. Army during World
War II.
He studied engineering
at Princeton University,
where he had the oppor-
tunity to meet Albert Ein-
stein. After his honorable
discharge, Woody moved to
Hermiston, Oregon, where
he has resided since.
He owned and operated
Starrett’s Decor in Hermis-
ton for more than 25 years.
He also served as a Uma-
tilla County commissioner
for two terms and the Port
of Umatilla commissioner
for 20 years.

5:17 p.m. — A boy, about 7 years
old, at West Division Avenue and

to climb into the storm drain on the
southeast side of the intersection.
8:28 p.m. — A missing person
was reported at North First Street,

10:36 p.m. — Five juveniles were
outside, and one had a BB gun and
was shooting at people.

12:10 a.m. — Emergency Room
staff at Good Shepherd Hospital on
Northwest 11th Street reported a male
in the emergency room who was
naked and refused to get dressed.
1:48 a.m. — Shots were fired in
officer-initiated activity off Interstate
84 East in Boardman, the deputy was
out with a possible disabled vehicle.
5:01 p.m. — A burglar was
reported at Northwest 11th Street at

1:19 p.m. — Two men were outside
drinking in the parking lot at South
Highway 395. They stashed two beers
in the bushes, and now are sitting in a
restaurant at a table.

12:29 p.m. — A caller reported
that his drunk uncle was trying to
fight another uncle, at East Newport
Avenue, Hermiston.
11:19 p.m. — A caller said he was
following subjects that stole a chain-
saw from his porch. He said they were
pulling into Jack in the Box, and were
driving a silver Altima with Oregon
plates 319JJA.

9:57 p.m. — A possible stolen
motorhome was reported at West
