HS should use old fairgrounds site for ag projects Wouldn’t it be great if a part of the old fairgrounds site could be used by Hermis- ton High students for agriculture projects? Since the Hermiston economy is based on crop production and food processing, our students should be prepared to earn jobs in those fi elds or get further education at the BMCC irrigated ag program. Hermiston area farmers and food pro- cessors are tremendous supporters of this community and I believe they would see the value in this program. Boardman Chamber of Commerce Chamber Luncheon Port of Morrow Riverfront Center August 16, 2017 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. (1) We are expecting a record number of visitors to the region over the weekend leading up to Monday’s Solar Eclipse. To avoid the traffic and fully experience Eastern Oregon’s slow-paced way of life, consider extending your trip by arriving on Wednesday or Thursday and departing on Tuesday or later. School Days.. .School Days.. (2) Many of the best Solar Eclipse viewing areas are in or around small communities with limited gas stations, grocery stores and other amenities. It’s a good idea to fuel up your vehicle on your way into the region and keep the tank topped off. (3) Be sure to pack enough water, food, and any medications for all members of your group in case of local supply shortages. Temperatures in August regularly reach the 100s, so plan to bring a larger supply of water than you think you will need. The “Early Learning Development Center” will be opening it doors and welcoming eager pre-school students for the 2017/2018 school year. (4) Unplug during your visit. While most of our communities do have cell phone service, coverage will be limited in many areas due to increased demand on our towers. By unplugging for the weekend, you’ll help keep the lines open for those needing emergency assistance. Umatilla—Morrow County Head Start, Inc. and Morrow County School District will provide contact information, registration procedures and requirements to enroll you child. (5) Keep in mind you may not be able to rely on e-navigation and roadside assistance will be limited. It’s a good idea to check your spare tire, share your travel plans with a friend or relative, and carry a first aid kit and a state map. Columbia River Community Health District will share information in regarding medical programs available for persons under the age of 18 years of age. (6) Never look at the sun without eclipse-rated eyewear. While many local businesses will carry eclipse viewing glasses or filters, it is possible they may sell out before the event. Make sure you’re prepared by purchasing your glasses ahead of time. The caterer for August’s luncheon will be the Boardman Senior Citizens Group. They will be treating all of us to a delicious meal of Chicken Parmigiana, side dish, salad and bread pudding. (7) August is the height of fire season in Eastern Oregon. To help us prevent wildfires and protect our natural landscapes, please observe local fire bans: (1) No campfires and open flames (2) Use propane BBQs for cooking (3) Avoid parking in dry grass (4) Dispose of cigarettes properly Lunch is $12.00 per person To ensure adequate seating and lunch, please RSVP by Monday, August 14, 2017 Boardman Chamber of Commerce (541) 481-3014 or info@boardmanchamber.org Courtesy of Eastern Oregon Visitors Association www.visiteastoregon.com Cabins ~ RV’s ~ Tents Fishing ~ ATV Trails Concessions R es er va tion L ine 541-9 8 9 -8 2 14 W eb s ite: m or r ow countypa r k s .org Em a il: m cpa r k s @ co.m or r ow .or.us M or r ow C ounty P ub lic W or k s 3 6 5 W .
