Manning the 17th hole
during the Camp Mead-
owood Springs Benefit
Golf Tournament, a four-
some of ladies brought in
$5,144 to help the camp
program, located near
Weston.
Karen Fontaine, Jeanie
Bloodsworth, Rita Walk-
er and Donna Casper of-
fered golfers a chance for
a perfect drive at the hole.
Those who ponied up $5
could forgo the dogleg
and advance 150 yards up
the par 4 hole. In addition,
the ladies sold a variety
of beverages to raise ad-
ditional money for the
camp.
In its 37th year, the
tournament was held June
2-4 at Big River Golf
Course in Umatilla. Mon-
ey from the event bene-
fits Camp Meadowood
Springs, a unique sum-
mer camp experience for
children/teenagers
and
their families impacted by
communication and/or so-
cial learning challenges.
“It’s just a fun thing
to do and we raise a lot
of money,” Bloodsworth
said.
Also, while manning
the hole, Bloodsworth
caught up with Port-
land Trail Blazers legend
Bob Gross, who was on
hand for the event. The
Hermiston woman has
been working on a Blaz-
ers-themed quilt and had
Gross autograph it.
Unsure of what she’s
going to do with the
quilt once it’s completed,
Bloodsworth said, “I think
it’s as tall as Bob Gross.”

HAPPY FATHERS DAY!
After a one-year hiatus,
next weekend’s lavender
festival will bloom again as
it raises money for a pair of
nonprofit organizations in
Hermiston.
Jim and Sheri Konnin-
grud started Purple Ridge
Lavender Festival as a way
to share their lavender farm
with others and to give back
to Agape House and Mar-
tha’s House. The couple
chose the two entities af-
ter having contact through
them with their business,
Pea Ridge Embroidery &
Signs.
The festival is Saturday,
June 24, from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. at Purple Ridge Lav-
ender, 29081 Bridge Road,
located west of Hermiston.
The general admission cost
is $10 per person or $12 for
craft beer tasting. Youths
under 12 are admitted free.
All admission and vendor
fees are donated to Agape
House and Martha’s House.
With a theme of “Magic
in the Fields,” Sheri Kon-
ningrud is excited to host
Penelope V. Pendragon and
encourages people to dress
up in their favorite fanciful
costumes. In fact, those don-
ning whimsical attire will
receive $2 off on admission.
“It’s a fairy tale theme

grud said.
On a mission to teach
kids about the power of
positive thinking, Pendrag-
on even consulted with a
childhood
development
specialist when creating her
Whimsical WiSH Wagon.
The imaginative art display
teaches several steps to take
that will help boost the pow-
er of positive thought.
Pendragon has received
positive feedback from
adults, as well. At a festi-
val, one woman said she
had attended numerous
workshops, read all kinds of
books and watched DVDs
from motivational speakers.
“You just summed it all
up in the most simple, imag-
inative and magical way,”
the woman told Pendragon.
People are encouraged
to bring their camera to the
festival. The lovely lavender
makes a perfect backdrop
for photos.
In addition to the aroma
of lavender, live music will
fill the air with BBPD from
10-11 a.m., Cruise Control
from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and
Bobby Nelson & Faith Mar-
tin from 3-5 p.m. The event
also features Northwest art-
ists, artesian jewelry, a hen-
na artist, Auntie Ida’s Quilt
challenge and display, food
and more.
And last, but not least,
all things lavender will be
available. People can cut
fresh bundles, purchase a
plant for their garden and
visit the farm boutique for
everything from culinary
lavender products to laven-
der bath and body gifts of all
kinds.

yond will be on hand. Even
a pair of Hermiston vendors
are returning for the event.
Barbara Floyd said Cynthia
Traner, owner of C and R
Mercantile Co., will be the
highlight of the front and
center booths in the main
building, and anchoring the
back left corner of the main
building for the past five
years is Mary Gressley with
Compass Rose Trading Co.
“Both vendors are very
popular and well received
at our event,” Floyd said.
People can begin their
“hunting” adventure among
80 vendors, including in-
side the huge shed or on
the grass acreage, which
features outdoor booths.
Picnic tables are located
beneath large shade trees
between the indoor and
outdoor booths. Live music
and food trucks are nearby
to keep visitors fed and en-
tertained.
