George H. Wickersham, 84, of Hermiston died Wednes-
day, May 31, 2017, at his home. He was born March 7,
1933, in Everett, Washington. A graveside service with
military honors will be held Friday, June 9, at 10 a.m. at
the Hermiston Cemetery. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is

Foundation Scholarship,
allowing her scholarship
funding to go to runner-up
Kynzee Padilla.
In addition, the Knights
of Columbus awarded
eight $500 scholarships
during the Baccalaure-
ate Mass. All graduating
seniors from Hermiston,
the recipients were Devyn
Tarvin, Diana Espar-
za, Jaycee Ternes, Killie
Zepeda, Ben Pihl, Grave
Klein, Emily Ferguson
and Vanessa Mendoza.

day, May 24, 2017, in Los Angeles, California. A rosa-
ry was held Thursday, June 1. at Burns Mortuary chapel
in Hermiston. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday,
June 2, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church
in Hermiston. Burial will follow at the Hermiston Ceme-
tery. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in care of arrange-

Liberty Quartet, a Boi-
se-based traveling minis-

Founded in 1995, the

ministry in 1997. They

dation hosted its annu-
al Recipients Luncheon
May 9 at Wildhorse Re-
sort & Casino.
A community benefit
fund established by the
Confederated Tribes of
the Umatilla Indian Res-
ervation, more than 150
grant recipients from 2016
enjoyed a special lunch
as Wildhorse Foundation
chairman George Mur-
dock presented details on
funding for the last year.
The luncheon also cel-
ebrated passing a huge
milestone, surpassing $10
million in giving. More
than 1,750 local and re-
gional nonprofit organiza-
tions have benefited from
the nearly $10.2 million
given by the foundation
since its inception in 2001.
In 2016, more than
$886,000 was distribut-
ed to 153 organizations
in the foundation’s giv-
ing area, which includes
Umatilla, Union, Morrow
and Wallowa counties
in Oregon; Benton, Co-
lumbia and Walla Walla
counties in Washington,
and National Indian Or-
ganizations.
Following the lunch,
Murdock and the foun-
dation board, which also
includes vice-chairwom-
an Debra Croswell, sec-
retary/treasurer
Carrie
Sampson, Aaron Ashley
and John Turner, met to
discuss the 2017 first
quarter grant applicants.

Willie Boyd, sergeant at
arms.
The gathering also in-
cluded a discussion of up-
coming projects for the year
and the American Legion
State Session, which will
be held in June at Warm
Springs.
A highlight of American
Legion activities, Harting-
er said, was an April visit
at the Nixyaawii Gover-
nance Center by Charles E.
Schmidt, National Amer-
ican Legion commander.
Schmidt is the first Nation-
al American Legion com-
mander from Oregon.
Meetings are held the
first Monday of each month
at 7 p.m. at the Veterans of
Foreign Wars Hall, locat-
ed at 45 W. Cherry Ave.,
Hermiston. Members in-
clude veterans from Herm-
iston and the surrounding
