Local students
receive Cattle Baron
scholarships
As part of Pendleton
Cattle Barons Weekend, a
number of local students re-
ceived college scholarships
to pursue a career in agri-
culture or animal sciences.
“It’s about protecting
our Western heritage in
northeast Oregon,” said
Beau Reynolds, Cattle Bar-
ons treasurer.
Hermiston High School
students that were awarded
$1,500 scholarships include
Tanna Osmin and Wyatt
Paschal.

Echo Kiwanis
Foundation awards
scholarships
Three local high school
seniors and were chosen
to receive Echo Kiwanis
Foundation Scholarships.
This year’s Kiwanis Club
fundraising activities and
local donations from Echo
and Stanfield communities
provided the annual $500
scholarships. The recipients
include:
Laci Wiggins, the daugh-
ter of Jennifer and Brett
Kralman of Echo, is plan-
ning to pursue a degree in
agricultural business with a
minor in equine sciences at
Blue Mountain Community
College and either Oregon
State University or Mon-
tana State University. She
is the senior class president
and was a co-captain of the
basketball team. Also, she
ran cross country and par-
ticipated in trapshooting.
She has been active in FFA
throughout high school and
is the Echo FFA president
this year.
Ryan Bailey, the son of
Bryan and Jennifer Bailey,
will graduate as valedic-
torian from Stanfield this
spring with an associate of
arts degree from BMCC.
He plans to enroll in East-
ern Oregon University this
fall to pursue a business de-
gree with a minor in com-
puter science. He is ASB
president this year, having
served on student council
since he was a freshman.
He has played football,
basketball and baseball and
was named MVP for last
year’s state championship
team.
Hunter Barnes, the son
of Kent and Lori Barnes,
will graduate this spring
with an honors diploma
from Stanfield. He plans to
pursue a medical career at
Eastern Texas Baptist Uni-
versity or Rocky Mountain
College in Montana. He
has served on the ASB ex-
ecutive council since 2014
and has been a member of
the National Honor Society
since 2015. He has been
recognized as a scholar ath-
lete all four years of high
school and has participat-
ed on the football, baseball
and sporting clay teams.
Nobel Prize-winning
physicist nominates
Irrigon student
Lisa Dunn, a sophomore
at Irrigon High School, has
been named as a delegate
to the Congress of Future
Science and Technology
Leaders.
Set for June 29-July 1
at the University of Mas-
sachusetts, the congress is
