Umatilla Signing Day
Hermiston Herald
Students from Umatil-
la High School got to see
what the future can look
like when the school held
its second annual “sign-
ing day,” honoring its
graduating students who
will pursue higher educa-
tion.
All of Umatilla’s se-
niors who will attend col-
lege, trade school or the
military were celebrated,
with each one introducing
themselves and telling the
school what their plans
were for next year.
“I think it’s great,” said
Steven Ebker, the student
body president and a se-
nior who will be attending
Oregon State University.
“I love that the other stu-
dents, many even fresh-
men, are really proud of
their friends. Especially
with somebody being rec-
ognized, they know there
are people who care about
their education.”
The “Signing Day”
idea was started by Tia
Sepulvuda, the school’s
Gear Up coordinator.
Of
Umatilla
High
School’s 74 graduating
seniors, 55 have already
committed to post-sec-
ondary education of some
kind, about 74 percent of
the graduating class.
