RAINIER 3-2 — At Stan-
field, the Tigers gritted out
a pair of one-run victories
against Rainier on Saturday
afternoon, winning 4-3 and
3-2.
Stanfield (6-1) had a pair
of strong pitching perfor-
mances by both starters on
Saturday as both Dylan Gro-
gan and Brody Woods went
at least six innings. Grogan
pitched six and gave up five
hits, three earned runs and
five walks with eight strike-
outs, while Woods pitched
a complete game giving up
three hits, two runs, three
walks and six strikeouts.
Tony Flores also pitched
one scoreless inning in of re-
lief in game one, and also led
the team with four hits com-
bined on the day.
In Game 1, Rainier took
a 2-0 lead into the third in-
ning until an RBI single by
Grogan got Stanfield on the
board in the bottom of the
third. Grogan then scored on
a wild pitch to tie it at 2-2.
Rainier then took a 3-2
lead on a squeeze bunt in
the sixth, and then Stanfield
answered with two in the
bottom of the inning on a
sacrifice fly from Klay Jen-
son and an RBI single from
Renner to clinch the 4-3 win.
In Game 2, the teams
were tied 1-1 after the first
inning, and then in the third
Stanfield took the lead on a
Rainier error to allow Gro-
gan to score and then three
batters later Damien Curiel
singled into right to drive in
Woods for the 3-1 lead.
Rainier then got a run in
the seventh and had the bas-
es loaded with two outs, but
Woods got a strikeout to end
the game.

Mustangs sweep Loggers
The Heppner softball team
faced off against Knappa in
a doubleheader on Thurs-
day afternoon and sent the
Loggers home with a pair of
close losses, winning 16-15
in game one and 10-9 in game
two.
The Mustangs (5-2) took
their time getting going in
each game but finished strong
with walk-off hits by Morgan
Correa and Onna DeLoach
to outlast Knappa in both
games.
Correa hit a single to drive
in Tresslyn McCurry in the
bottom of the eighth inning
to win Game 1 16-15, and
DeLoach hit a bases-loaded
single with two outs in the
bottom of the seventh to score
two and lift Heppner to a 10-9
win in Game 2.
The Mustangs scored one
run in the first inning of each
game, but then went cold as
Knappa (1-6) built up leads of
10-1 and 8-1 over the middle
innings.
Heppner started finding
the gaps in the fifth inning
in Game 1 and took a 11-10
lead into the seventh, then
answered when Knappa plat-
ed four and sent the game to
an extra innings with a 14-14
score.
DeLoach finished the
game 4 for 4 with four RBIs,
McCurry was 2-3 and Mag-
gie Flynn was 3 for 5.
It was a seven-run sixth in-
ning that got Heppner going
in Game 2, and when Knappa
regained the lead in the top of
the seventh the Mustangs ral-
lied one more time.
A ground out, Correa sin-
gle and fly out gave them one
on with two outs, but Taylor
Hamby kept them alive with
a single and Morgan Orem
was hit by a pitch to load to
bases and bring up DeLoach,
who also pitched a complete
game and finished 3 for 5
at the plate. Correa (3 for 4)
and Dakota Durfey (2 for 4)
also had multiple hits in the
second game, and Heppner
totaled 31 for the afternoon.
