Flynn needed to win just
three matches total for his
title, but didn’t exactly have
an easy road. He beat Cul-
ver’s Cylus Hoke 7-4 in the
quarterfinals on Friday and
Lowell’s Zachary Kintzley
9-3 in the semifinals earlier
Saturday.
After pinning his way
through the first three
rounds, Rockwell won his
second 3A state title with
a 9-3 decision over Kasey
Collier of Glide. Rockwell
was ahead 4-1 at the end of
the first period and was able
to stay a half step ahead of
Collier the entire match,
picking up points with take-
downs.
Rockwell won his semi-
final match with a pin in
1:08 over Burns’ Kyran
Simpson.
Only two other local
wrestlers won in the semi-
finals on Saturday — Pend-
leton senior Morgan Hol-
comb and Mac-Hi junior
Spencer Wells.
Holcomb earned his
third pin of the tournament
against Lebanon’s Joseph
Blisseck in 57 seconds.
That set up a 5A 160-pound
final against Dallas’s Tanner
Earhart, where Earhart pre-
vailed by the narrowest of
margins 7-6. He had placed
third as a junior and finished
with an 8-4 record in three
state tournaments.
Wells was another state
veteran making his first trip
to the final match when he
pinned Baker’s Hudson
Cole in 3:25 in the semi-
Joey Delgado was one of five
Oregon State wrestlers to qualify
for the NCAA Championships on
Sunday at the Pac-12 Conference
Championships at Stanford.
It is the third time the
149-pound Hermiston product
has reached the NCAAs, and he
did so with a third-place finish
when he beat Joshy Cortez of Cal
Poly, 3-1.
Delgado is 1-4 overall in his
previous two NCAAs.
Freshman Bob Coleman
(174), also of Hermiston, placed
fifth in the Pac-12.
