John Russell Hendricks
Zillah, Wash.
September 26, 1953-February 11, 2017
Left in the dark —
I called him John; oth-
ers called him my dad.
He was a
man of many
names
to
many people,
depending
upon when
and
where
you
knew
him from. So
many at one
time or an-
other called
him a friend, Hendricks
brother, son,
uncle, as just about every-
one knew him or of him.
He is gone way before
his time should have been
but the demons (which he
struggled with off and on
throughout his life on a
daily basis) were far too
great for him to over-
come.
John passed away Sat-
urday morning, February
11, in Zillah, Washington,
at the age of 63. I know for
a fact that he was a proud
father, as whenever I was
with him or went to visit
he would tell anybody he
knew and strangers alike,
“That’s my daughter.” We
had many good times to-
gether when I was grow-
ing up, which became
further between as I be-
came an adult, but if we
had something planned he
would get all gussied up
and ready to go with to-
tal excitement in his eyes.
Our biggest thing when I
was growing
up was go-
ing to the lo-
cal car races,
which we did
every Satur-
day night for
as long as I
can remem-
ber. Sunday,
though, was
left for Dale
Earnhardt
and
NA-
SCAR on TV.
He was an amazing
truck driver for many
years at Simplot (where
he was known as JB, and
the name carried on af-
ter), earning the number
one and number two driv-
er for many, many years.
So it is with these
memories I say goodbye,
so long to a good friend.
It’s been a long ride and
now the struggle is over.
John is preceded in
death by his father Dick
Hendricks and son John
Lee. He is survived by
his mother Virginia Car-
nell; brother Gil and wife
Nita Hendricks and many
nieces and nephews; dear
friend Tony Bliss and
family; and myself, Dawn
Hendricks, his daughter.
A private service will
be held.
