Hermiston
July 6, 1923-October 27, 2016
Beverly E. Aichele was
born on September 7, 1929,
in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to
Frank and Mary Johnson
Copp. Beverly passed away
on October 27, 2016,
at her home in Herm-
iston, Oregon, at the
age of 87 years.
Beverly
was
raised and attend-
ed schools in Iowa.
She graduated from
Eagle Grove High Aichele
School in 1947 and
treasured her friendships
from there. She visited
family in Oregon and met a
young man, Loyd Aichele.
Beverly returned to Ore-
gon after graduation and
the romance grew. Beverly
was united in marriage to
Loyd A. Aichele on July
25, 1949, in Pasco, Wash-
ington.
She worked at the Uma-
tilla Army Depot while
Loyd was in the service
for two years during the
Korean War. When Loyd
returned home Beverly
became a full-time home-
maker, raising their son
Terry and daughter Debra.
She was very supportive of
her children, always there
for sporting events, music
performances, and school
activities.
Beverly enjoyed music,
dancing, animals, sewing,
reading, watching mov-
ies and sports, and visiting
with friends. She was a
member of the First United
Methodist Church in Herm-
iston, Oregon, and a five-
year survivor of breast can-
cer. She had also survived
colon cancer.
While Beverly and Loyd
were raising their children
their yard became a favor-
ite place for neighborhood
children to come and play.
Even after their children
had grown, several gener-
ations of children would
come to look at the big tree
and ask to play basketball.
She would put everyone
else’s needs before hers.
When a family member
suffered major medical
issues she would take on
the important tasks even
as she was facing medical
problems herself. She knew
how to reach out to people,
love people and help them
succeed.
Beverly loved all of the
holidays — the gathering
of loved ones at Christmas
and Thanksgiving,
then the glorious
fireworks on the 4th
of July.
One of Beverly’s
favorite hobbies was
collecting turtle figu-
rines.
When the inter-
net came along she
liked to watch webcams
streaming video from plac-
es like Waikiki Beach in
Hawaii, Nassau in the Ba-
hamas and other exotic lo-
cations.
She was a proud Dem-
ocrat and was so proud of
the fact that Hillary Clinton
was running for president
of the United States. Bev-
erly was a peacemaker, a
lover, a dreamer. She will
always be cherished by all
who knew and loved her.
Beverly’s family wants
to thank deeply the medi-
cal staff at Kadlec Regional
Medical Center in Richland,
Washington, and the peo-
ple who worked with her
at Kadlec Palliative Care
and Vange John Memorial
Hospice in order to make
her wish to pass away in her
home of 63 years possible.
She is survived by her
husband of 67 years, Loyd
Aichele, Hermiston, Ore.;
son Terry Aichele, Herm-
iston, Ore.; daughter Debra
Morris, Las Vegas, Nev.;
brother James Copp; and
numerous nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Beverly was preceded
in death by her parents,
and siblings Mary, Elnora,
Franklin and Alvin.

Kenneth Paul Munger
Umatilla
December 1, 1943-October 27, 2016
Kenneth
Paul Munger,
72, passed
away
af-
ter a short
illness
on
T h u r s d a y,
October
27, 2016, surrounded by
his loved ones. He is sur-
vived by his wife of 54
years, Janet Marie Mung-
er; daughters Connie Ma-
rie Francis (Mert), Laura
Dawn Carter (Bob), and
Carol Jean Jones (Darby);
eight grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren.
Ken is also survived by
siblings Jaunita Ryan, Jer-
ry Munger and Rowena
Thompson.
Ken was born December
1, 1943, in New Plymouth,
Idaho, the seventh and
youngest child of Edward
Delano Munger and Lavel-
la Marie Munger. When he
was 6, Ken’s family moved
to Oregon, and he grew up
in the Umatilla area.
Ken attended Umatilla
High School and married
his high school sweet-
heart, Janet Buchanan,
in 1962. He served in the
Navy from 1963 to 1967
at Lemoore Naval Air Sta-
tion, where he worked on
airplanes. Ken and Janet
moved their family back to
the Umatilla area in 1967,
where Ken went to work
for the Union Pacific Rail-
road, first as a pipefitter at
the Hinkle yard, and later
as a conductor/yard engi-
neer. Ken retired
from the rail-
road in 2004.
Ken was a
popular stu-
dent at Uma-
tilla
High,
and he main-
tained close contact with
many of his classmates
throughout his adult life,
often organizing class re-
unions. He was also devot-
ed to his family, and his pig
roasts are fondly remem-
bered by all his friends and
extended family.
Ken was an avid collec-
tor with a wide variety of
interests, from dishware
and western movies to ea-
gles and engine parts. He
also enjoyed keeping live-
stock and, after his retire-
ment, spent many happy
hours caring for his goats,
rabbits, chickens, and the
occasional llama. Ken’s
other favorite activities
include barbecuing, going
to yard sales, and beating
Janet at cribbage. In his
youth, Ken was famous
for his imposing physical
strength, but he will prob-
ably be most remembered
for his love of story-tell-
ing; as he often said, he
would tell the truth 15
different ways before he
would lie.
In keeping with Ken’s
wishes, there will be no
funeral service. The family
has elected instead to cele-
brate Ken’s life with a pig
roast in the coming spring.
