died Sept. 23, 2016 at Port-
land. At her request, no ser-
vices will be held.
Grace was born Nov.
13, 1929, at Truax,
Saskatchewan, Can-
ada, to Henry and
Ione Schleede. The
Schleede
family
moved from Can-
ada to Oregon in
1937 when Grace
was seven years Joyner
old. She graduat-
ed from McLaugh-
lin High School in
Milton-Freewater,
Oregon, in 1948.
She married Robert
Joyner in 1950.
Grace was a book-
keeper and secretary Joyner
for many years, and
was employed by the Da-
vid Douglas School District
until her retirement in 1987.
Bob passed away in 2002.
Survivors include her
daughter, Patricia; and
three grandchildren. Grace
was preceded in death by
her husband, Robert;
her son, James; and
her siblings, Wal-
lace Schleede, Elsie
Morris, and Audrey
Gaines.
Disposition
is
by cremation. In-
urnment is at Wil-
lamette
National
Cemetery, Portland,
Oregon.

April 1, 1971, in The Burns

He graduated from Stanield
High School and attended
Blue Mountain Community
College.
He was married to Jen-
nifer Bennett and from that
marriage had two beautiful
daughters.
He was owner of Agricul-
ture Commodity Transporta-
tion LLC and currently em-
ployed by M & M Potato at
the time of his death.
He enjoyed camping,
4-wheeling, spending time
with his family and friends,
and working on the family
farm.
He is survived by
his two daughters

Burns; his mother
Peggy Burns; sister
Michele Burns-Ro-
driguez;
nephew

SUNDAY, OCT. 2
3:10 a.m. - A man reported the
front desk worker at Riverview Motel,
200 Front St. N.E., Boardman, pulled a
pistol on him.
3:03 p.m. - Five motorcyclists
were “popping wheelies and messing
around,” a caller said, on Interstate 84
near Boardman.
6:23 p.m. - Oregon State Police
and an ambulance from Pendleton
responded to a semitrailer crash on
the westbound side of Interstate 84
near milepost 211 just outside Pendle-
ton. The driver went over the edge of
the road, over-corrected and caused
the semi and trailer to lip onto the
passenger side and block both lanes
for about two hours.
The driver, a 52-year-old man
from Idaho, sufered a head wound,
and an ambulance took him to St.

1, just short of his
93rd birthday. He was
born in Exeland, Wis.,
on December 3, 1923,
as the sixth boy to
Annie Bell McHen-
ry Lund and Robert
Lund. He graduated Lund
from high school in
Ladysmith, Wis., and joined
the army in 1942.
He served as an infan-
tryman during WWII with
the 34th Division of the US
Army in Italy. He was a ser-
geant at the time of his dis-
charge. He met Gracemary
Bernskoetter in Jefferson
City, Mo., during the war.
They married on January 29,
1946, in Washington, D.C.
After leaving the service,
Steve used the GI Bill to
get his BS degree in agron-
omy at Clemson University,
S.C. He preceded to attain
his M.S. and Ph.D. in plant
breeding and plant pathology
at the University of Wiscon-
sin in 1953.
His irst academic posi-
tion was at Clemson Uni-
versity as assistant professor
before being recruited by
Rutgers University. He took
a position at Rutgers in N.J.
where he developed Norline
winter oats, Early Wong bar-
ley and Tschermak malting
barley. He held the Soils and
Crops Department chairman-
ship at Cook College, Rut-
gers University for the four
years prior to his retirement
in 1975 as Professor Emeri-
tus. He was N.J. Boy Scout
Commissioner as well as the

Vickie P. Meade of
Hermiston, Oregon, was
born on November 5,
1950, in Decatur, Illinois,
to parents George and Ev-
elyn Pauline Casner
Hott. She died on
September 5, 2016,
in Albany, Oregon,
at the age of 65
years.
Vickie attended
schools in Middle-
town,
California. Meade
She has lived in
Hermiston, Oregon, for
over 40 years where she
had a successful career in
recreational vehicle sales,
including creating and run-
ning her own company,
Northwest Motor Homes.
Vickie was a member
of the Hermiston Church
of the Nazarene and was
an active volunteer with
Vange John Memorial
Hospice, where she had
served as the bereavement
director. She also rescued
and spayed many animals
and loved her bird, Mikey.
Vickie enjoyed reading
crime novels, shopping,
and helping others.
She is survived by her
grandson Cody L.D. Bon-
ney, Westminster, Colo.;
granddaughter Lindsay V.
Bonney, Olympia, Wash.;
brothers Lynn Hott and his
wife Janice, Salem, Ore.,
and Steve Hott and his
wife Barbara, Hermiston,
Ore.; and stepchildren Bet-
ty Hiatt, Janet Bonney and
Ken Bonney, all of Herm-
iston, Oregon.

in death by her husband,

friends, goling, cross-coun-
try skiing, travel, cross-
words and duplicate bridge
in which he was a Bridge
Master. In 2015 he visited
the WWII Memorial with the
Honor Flight.
He is survived by his love-
ly wife, Grace, of 70-plus
years of marriage and his ive
children, Dr. Steve Lund Jr.
(Libby), John Lund (Sharyl),
Thomas Lund, Dr. Cynthia
Lund (Emile Gaiera) and
Lisa Sharkey (Wm Patrick).
His grandchildren include
Stephanie Lund, Kt Sharkey,
Patrick Sharkey (Andrea),
Celeste Gaiera, John Paul
Sharkey and Hunter Lund,
and great-grandchild, Lucia
Sharkey.
He is predeceased by his
parents and his six brothers,
Glen, Dale, Ed Bob, Carl
and Max. He was also prede-
ceased by his eldest daugh-
ter, Sharon Ann.
