BULLDOGS:
continued from Page A10
STAFF PHOTO BY TAMMY MALGESINI
Umatilla High School soccer players Armando Espinoza
(4) and Cesar de la Cruz (17) are all smiles during a Special
District 4 game Saturday against Portland’s City Christian
Lions. The Vikings won the match-up 13-1 in Umatilla.
VIKINGS TAME LIONS IN SPECIAL
DISTRICT 4 SOCCER MATCH-UP
After getting shut out
in its irst two games, the
Umatilla boys soccer team
has scored 17 goals during
its current three-game un-
beaten streak.
Thirteen of the those
were poured in over the
weekend as the Vikings de-
feated Special District 4 foe
City Christian (Portland)
13-1 on Saturday to get
back to .500 in league play
(2-2-1, 1-1 SD4).
During
Hermiston’s
long answering drive,
Cougar Tyler Smith bare-
ly missed intercepting the
ball in the end zone and
the Bulldogs ended up at-
tempting a ield goal that
did not succeed.
The Cougars scored
again on the next drive,
making it 35-21 with 2:50
left in the game and put-
ting them within striking
distance of a win. But the
Bulldogs ran out the clock
before they could score
again.
After the game Faae-
teete said the he was happy
with the win after the sea-
son’s irst two losses left
a “sour taste in peoples’
mouths.” Looking forward
to the next home game
against Summit he said it
was time to work on tight-
ening up the team’s perfor-
mance.
“There were too many
mistakes, too many mental
errors,” he said. “We’ve
got to clean that up.”
