She died on August 22, 2016, in Woodburn, Oregon, at the age of 89 years. She was raised and attended schools in Portland, Oregon. Betty was united in marriage to David Briley D. Briley on July 27, 1947, in Vancouver, Wash- ington. They lived in Clack- amas County, Oregon, for many years where Betty stayed at home to raise their eight children. They moved to Stanfi eld, Oregon, in 1989 and then to Woodburn, Ore- gon, in 2015. Betty enjoyed gardening, growing fl owers, crossword puzzles, reading, camping, spending time at the beach and going to the cabin in Sumpter. She is survived by her children Chester Wyatt, El- gin, Ore., Rebecca Stearns (Jim), Hermiston, Ore., Ste- phen Briley, Hermiston, Ore., John Briley, Eagle Creek, Ore., Mark Briley (Teri), Woodburn, Ore., and Bar- bara Emra (Keith), Donald, Ore.; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchil- dren; and numerous nieces and nephews. PUBLIC SAFETY LOG SUNDAY, AUG. 28 1:09 a.m. - Two people on 4-wheelers were reported driving up and down East Punkin Center Road, Hermiston, and then back and forth between there and the Short Stop. The caller said they are driving fast and all over the road. Umatilla County sheriff’s deputies were unable to find the culprits. 11:11 a.m. - Someone rum- maged through three vehicles at a residence on Carolina Road, Umatilla, but not a whole lot was taken — except an ashtray. A second caller from Carolina Road also reported her vehicle broken into at 1:49 p.m. SATURDAY, AUG. 27 5:49 a.m. - A newspaper carrier reported two fawns tangled up in a fence on Southeast Gilmore Street, Heppner. The Morrow County Sheriff’s Department and the city of Heppner responded and freed the deer. 4:29 p.m. - A Hermiston resident reported the windows on the front and back of a garage at property he owns on West Hermis- ton Avenue have been broken out. FRIDAY, AUG. 26 10:44 a.m. - The rear driver’s side tire of a car was slashed on Northeast Third Street, Hermis- ton, the car’s owner reported to Hermiston police. 12:10 p.m. - A Marine Corps sergeant conducting a service at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Uma- tilla contacted Umatilla police after finding a snake tied up to the doors of the Seventh-day Adventist Church next door to the cemetery. 2:53 p.m. - A resident of Lexington reported to the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office they received a scam call regarding cooperating with the grand jury or else he would be arrested. The caller provided the phone number for the scammer. 9:01 p.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Boardman Fire Department and Boardman am- bulance were called to the vicinity of Desert Road and Frontage Lane near Boardman by a caller who said he came across a rollover accident on an access road off Interstate 84 and that he had an occupant of the vehicle in his car. The caller said the man had a cut on his head and back pain. At 10:39 p.m. a sheriff’s deputy called dis- patch and requested they contact the day shift deputies to request a sign for the area from the Morrow County Road Department warning about some of the curves in the road. The caller said the cat was not housecat size but larger, and thinks there might be two of them in the area. THURSDAY, AUG. 25 12:46 a.m. - A caller reported gunshots and yelling in the area of Viewcrest Apartments, 525 S.W. 13th Place, Hermiston. Police did not find any suspects. 9:41 a.m. - A caller on North O’Brien St., Stanfield, said a 30-year-old man was riding a bicycle fast while carrying a rifle in a case. 10:22 a.m. - Hermiston police received another call about gunshots, this time a caller on East Opal Court said she heard two shots “like a high powered gun” from west of her back yard, 11:39 a.m. - An Ione mother reported a juvenile shot her daughter with a pellet-type gun. She said she took the gun, her daughter was OK, but she wanted to talk to someone about it. A Morrow County sheriff’s deputy re- sponded and spoke to the juvenile. 12:18 p.m. - Law enforcement responded to a call from a father at Trail Apartments, 295 Boardman Ave. N.E., Boardman, who said juveniles forced his daughter into a restroom, locked her inside and stole items from her backpack. 12:49 p.m. - A 7-year-old boy used a foam bat to hit a 3-year-old boy on Southeast Sixth Street, Hermiston. The mother of the 3-year-old said there was no need for medics, but the hitter’s mother left with him and her other children and she has a description of the vehicle. 2:21 p.m. - A man on Lind Road, Umatilla, told law enforcement a woman came to his house and wanted to sell him some tools. He later found someone had broken into his shed and taken tools. WEDNESDAY, AUG. 24 9:09 a.m. - A man told Stanfield police he bought a car from a woman in Stanfield, and now the car won’t run and she won’t refund his money. 12:20 p.m. - A caller on Sage- brush Road, Hermiston, reported he argued with his father, who then pulled a pocket knife on him. The caller said he, his girlfriend and their 2 1/2-year-old daughter went to a bedroom. 4:54 p.m. - A man reported he and his wife were walking Oxbow Trail No. 2 on West Elm Extension and Northwest 11th Street, Herm- iston, when they spotted a cougar. The big cat was about 50 yards away, they said, and walked down the embankment and into the brush toward the creek. The sighting was at about 11:30 a.m., they said. 5:19 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man making threats against a woman in the Hermiston area. The caller expressed concern for the woman and her children and asked for a deputy to make sure they were OK. TUESDAY, AUG. 23 7:58 a.m. - Hermiston police received a request to check on two skinny dogs on East Reeder Drive. 11:21 a.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a male yelling at a boy on South Main Street, Heppner, and the male may have him on the ground. A deputy contacted the child and his grandmother, who was disci- plining the boy. The deputy found no evidence of injury or a crime. 12:08 p.m. - A Hermiston resident reported a possible Medicare scam. She said a caller claimed to be with the agency and wanted to measure her husband for a back brace, and she provided her husband’s Social Security number. But when she called back, no one answered. 12:48 p.m. - A Hermiston woman asked for police to help her take care of the dog her mother left her because she had no gas money to take the dog to a shelter. A dispatcher asked for her phone number and mother’s name, and she said, “That’s OK,” and discon- nected. 1:06 p.m. - A man asked Hermiston police to check on his great-grandson because he was “living in fi lth with no clean running water” in an “old junky motorhome” in the parking lot of the Wal-mart Supercenter, 1350 N. First St. 7:05 p.m. - A mother told Herm- iston police her 10-year-old daugh- ter reported a male threatened “to do bad things to her and drag her away.” The mother said the incident happened on Aug. 19, and her daughter would not leave their home since then, and she finally cried and said what happened. 7:29 p.m. - Someone dropped off three kittens at a woman’s home on Northeast Court Street, Heppner. She told the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office her dog would try to kill them. Saturday, Aug. 27 • The Morrow County Sheriff’s Department arrested Bianney Nathaniel Perez Rojas, 37, address not provided, for possession of methamphetamine, criminal possession of forged instrument and first-degree forgery, all felonies, misdemeanor giving false information to police, and on felony and misdemeanor failure to appear warrants. • Umatilla police arrested Joseph James Ashley Burns, 21, address not provided, for first-de- gree burglary and fourth-degree aggravated assault, both felonies, and for second-degree theft, harassment-offensive physical con- tact, menacing and second degree criminal mischief (vandalism), all misdemeanors. TUESDAY, AUG. 23 • A Umatilla man faces a felony theft charge for stealing at least $1,000 from the Sub Zero Restau- rant & Lounge, Irrigon. The Morrow County Sheriff ’s Offi ce arrested William Alexander Sutton, 39, and booked him into the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton, for fi rst-de- gree theft, a Class C felony. State court records show a Morrow County grand jury indicted Sutton for stealing money from the establishment’s cash box on June 29.
