Hermiston. Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday,
Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church

1:46 p.m. - The Umatilla County
Sheriff’s Office received information
about possible dog neglect on the
77600 block of North Ash Road, Stan-
field. The dogs are in covered kennels
and lack food and water.
10:11 - Two males, one armed with
a gun, knocked on the door of a trailer
on Fifth Street. Umatilla, stole tools
from the porch, then left on foot.
11:17 p.m. - A woman told the
Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office she
received permission from a deputy to
leave her car across from a residence
on Joy Lane until Thursday. However,
her neighbor, who she’s “having
issues” with, pushed the car onto
someone’s property.
THURSDAY, AUG. 11
7:30 a.m. - A man on Craig Road,
Hermiston, reported his ex-girlfriend
was asked to leave the house last
night and when he woke up he found
that someone had slashed the tires
on his new girlfriends’ car and also
scratched its paint.
3:54 p.m. - A Hermiston man
on Cactus Drive reported his father
assaulted him. He also declined
medical help.
9:28 p.m. - Umatilla police
received a report of a dark green
Subaru Forester circling around the
neighborhood on Tucker Avenue.

Michele (Moe) Denise
Lowary, 60, of Pendleton
passed away Sunday, July
31, 2016, at OHSU in Port-
land after a long battle with
leukemia.
Michele was born
to Dave and Bernice
Lowary on July 31,
1956, in Pendleton.
She was raised and
educated in Pend-
leton and graduat-
ed from Pendleton Lowary
High School in
1974. Michele loved camp-
ing and the outdoors. She
enjoyed camping at her
“Loafarosa” near Tollgate
where she loved watching
and feeding the deer, birds
and other wildlife. She en-
joyed her trips to Mexico
and riding roller coasters.
She was notoriously fun,
had a wry sense of humor,
a contagious laugh and al-
ways had a joke to tell or
found a way to laugh in
spite everything she was
going through, which is a
true testament to her spirit.
Michele worked local-
ly at Safeway, Buttrey’s,
PGG and then 25 years at
Wilcox Furniture until they
were sold. She then start-
ed work as a caregiver —
compassionate, kind, and
9:43 p.m. - A woman on Rio Senda
Drive, Umatilla, told police she has
an ongoing problem with a male and
female trespassing on her property
and shining a light in her bedroom
window.
FRIDAY, AUG. 12
5:46 p.m. - A woman reported a
red vehicle pulled in front of her at
Paterson Ferry Road and Interstate
84, Boardman, and she swerved to
avoid the crash but rolled her vehicle.
She said she and her 11-year-old son
were OK, though.

6:45 a.m. Someone opened
mailboxes and scattered mail at
Lind and Bensel roads, Hermiston.
A report also came in at 9:35 a.m.
about mail theft on Sagebrush Road,
Hermiston.
4:56 p.m. - Irrigon residents
reported a man they did not know
was lying on the neighbor’s yard. A
Morrow County sheriff’s deputy and
an Irrigon ambulance responded, and
the deputy gave the man a ride to
Umatilla.
5:30 p.m. - A man reported the
theft of his license plates from McNary
Beach on Beach Access Road, Umatilla.
7:43 p.m. - The Umatilla County
Sheriff’s Office passed on a tip to
Hermiston police that young men
were attempting to charge people
for parking in a public lot near the
fairgrounds. Hermiston police checked
out the possible fraud.

The following sentences have been
imposed in Umatilla County courts:
FELONY
1:52 a.m. - An emergency caller
reported a man punched a woman
in the face at Hermiston High School,
600 First St., Hermiston, but no one
was there by the time an officer
arrived.
1:41 p.m. - Two “transient looking”
people on Bridgeport Avenue, Umatil-
la, went house to house plugging cell
phone chargers into outdoor power
outlets.
11:55 p.m. - The Umatilla County
Sheriff’s Office received a report of a
Hermiston man posting cockfighting
videos on Facebook.
• Michael Wayne Rupe, 29, Hermis-
ton, pleaded guilty to Sexual Abuse II;
sentenced to 18 months Oregon Dept.
of Corrections, 3 years post-prison
supervision and $200 fine; pleaded
guilty to two counts of Sexual Abuse
III; sentenced to $100 fine for each
count.
8:23 a.m. - A legally blind woman
said a small dog that lives on E. Cath-
erine Avenue, Hermiston regularly
attacks her on her morning walks.
She wants the owners to contain their
dog.

was

1927,
in Sturkey,
Arkansas,
to Lewis and
Zona
Cawvey.
He passed away
peacefully in his
Sutherlin,
Or-
egon, home on
July 29, 2016,
surrounded
by
family and with
daughters Patri-
cia and Shannon
each holding one Cawvey
of his hands.
He is survived by his
wife Donna and his children
Michael Cawvey, Patricia
Todd, Tim Cawvey, Wes
Cawvey and Shannon Riv-
erman, and stepdaughters
Vicki Danforth and Tam-
mi Gerard. He is also sur-
vived by his brother Troy
Cawvey and sisters Betty
Long and Alene Schneider.
He was blessed with nu-
merous grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Jim was raised in Arkan-
sas, and served as a member
of the United States Army
Air Corps before moving to
Hermiston, Oregon, where
he raised his family and
worked for over 30 years at
the Umatilla Army Depot.
Jim, known as
Shelby to his
family,
had
a love for
the outdoors
and enjoyed
camping,
hunting, ¿sh-
ing and travel
adventures with
his family. From
river to ocean
¿shing,
crab-
bing or bagging
an elk, deer or
moose, he seldom
came home emp-
ty-handed. Shel-
by had a green
thumb when it
came to garden-
ing and made the best jerky.
Shelby was much sought
after when it came to danc-
ing. He could whistle a tune
easily on key and his story-
telling kept you enthralled.
He possessed an abundance
of humor and keen wit that
always kept you on your
toes. Easy to smile or laugh,
he was a kind, loyal person
and his friends were many.
He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life
will be held at the Covenant
United Methodist Church on
Saturday, August 20, 2016,
at 1:00 p.m. in Reedsport,
Oregon. Memorial con-

things tie-dyed. In her spir-

10:40 a.m. - A 9-1-1 caller reported
a male appeared to hit a female in
a vehicle that left Agape House, 500
W. Harper Road, Hermiston, toward
Geer Road.
7:52 p.m. - A woman on Jefferson
Street, Umatilla, told police a person
dressed all in black and wearing a
black ski mask knocked on her door at
12:30 p.m., when her cousin was the
only person home. The caller said she
decided to report this after talking to
her mother.
7:55 p.m. - An Irrigon caller on
Southeast Thomas Avenue reported
something got into the pasture and
killed their two sheep and two goats.
8:06 p.m. - Umatilla police
received an emergency report of a
male in “rough clothes” breaking into
a vacant house on El Monte Street.
9:21 p.m. - The Umatilla County
dispatch center received a 9-1-1 call
about a man and a woman fighting
over a phone on Northeast 10th
Street, Hermiston. Another woman,
though, became upset with the
person making the emergency call,
and a dispatcher had to tell her to
stop interfering with the call, which is
against Oregon law. The man called
back and said he was at his house in
case law enforcement needed to talk
to him, and the woman said she was
going home as well.
10:04 p.m. - A caller reported
a dead calf by a cornfield at West
Walls and Craig roads, Hermiston.
Bailing twine was around the animal’s
legs, as if someone dragged it, and
someone cut it open.

Eisele
was
born
on
March 17,
1950,
in
Pendleton,
Oregon,
to
parents
Gordon and Elvira
Schindele Eisele. He
died on August 9,
2016, at his home in
Umatilla, Oregon, at
the age of 66 years.
Bruce was raised
and attended schools Eisele
in Umatilla, Oregon.
He graduated from high
school and enlisted in the
United States Navy during
the Vietnam War. Bruce was
assigned to the USS Hornet
as a ¿reman when they re-
covered the astronauts from
the Apollo 11 mission in
the ocean. After his honor-
able discharge he returned to
Umatilla, Oregon where he
has lived since.
He has worked as a
heavy equipment operator
for Jones Scott/Umatilla
Redi Mix for many years.
Bruce enjoyed rock collect-
ing, gemology, cars, me-
chanic-ing, history, watch-
ing westerns and Antiques
Road Show, and loved an-
imals.
• David John Wetmore, 55, Irrigon,
pleaded guilty to Possession of Meth-
amphetamine; sentenced to 18 months
probation, 90 sanction units, 30 max-
imum jail units, 80 hours community
service, $250 fine, $2,250 fine-sus-
pended and 6 months driver’s license
suspension.
• Carl Howard Wilson, 76, Hermis-
ton, pleaded guilty to Sexual Abuse I;
sentenced to 75 months Oregon Dept.
of Corrections, 45 months post-prison
supervision and $200 fine; pleaded
guilty to two counts of Sexual Abuse
III; sentenced to $100 fine for each
count.
• Kristopher Michael Smith, 38,
Hermiston, pleaded guilty to Posses-
sion of Methamphetamine; sentenced
to 60 days jail, 1 year post-prison
supervision, $200 fine and 6 months
driver’s license suspension, plus court
costs and fees.
MISDEMEANOR
•Arlete Olivias Carrera, 20, Herm-
iston, pleaded guilty to Criminal
Mischief II; sentenced to 180 days
jail-suspended, 2 years probation, 40
hours community service, $100 fine
and $900 fine-suspended, plus court
assessment.
