HERMISTON HERALD
Walchli Farms won the
overall sweepstakes award
and the best business À oat
during the Umatilla Coun-
t\ Fair parade.
The event, which was
held Aug. 6, kicked of fair
week in Hermiston. Also,
Hermiston Drug & Gift
won the fair theme award,
which depicts Traditions
and Transitions.
The parade drew 145
entries and 11 received
¿ rst place ribbons in dif-
ferent categories. Those

Harvest Festival
seeks vendors
7he Morrow Count\
Harvest Festival is seeking
vendors.
7he event is Saturda\,
Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
at the SAGE Center, 101
Olson Road, Boardman.
Also, the Boardman Cham-
ber of Commerce will be
hosting the Harvest Festival
Car Show during the event.
The cost for vendor
booths is $35, which in-
cludes two passes for the
vendor breakfast. Vendors
will be set up on the mez-
zanine and produce vendors
will be outside the front
entr\ of the SAGE Center.

Girl Scouts offer
tech support
Local Girl Scouts are of-
fering technolog\ and soft-
ware classes for the area’s
senior citizens.
The ¿ rst session is Sat-
urda\, Aug. 20 from 9 a.m.
to 1 p.m. and will cover
social media, technolog\
classes, Facebook, Sk\pe,
email, One Drive and Word
basics. The second class
is Saturda\, Aug. 27 from
9-11 a.m. and will focus
solel\ on more advanced
Word program skills, in-
cluding how to formulate
contact lists and mailing
addresses.
The classes will be
held in the computer labs
at Blue Mountain Com-
munit\ College ² 975
S.E. Columbia Drive,
Hermiston ² so there is
no need to bring a com-
puter. The Girl Scouts
are offering the classes as
part of their Gold Award
Project, which is similar
to the Bo\ Scout Eagle
Project.

meets Sunday
The Tuarterl\ meeting
of the Morrow Count\
Historical Societ\ is com-
ing up.
The group is dedicated
to preserving the histor\
of Morrow Count\. ,n ad-
dition, the\ sponsor trips
to visit historical sites and
events.
The no-host meeting
is Sunda\ at the Mustang
Diner, 180 N. Chase St.,
Heppner. Visitors are wel-
come to attend. The annual
dues for historical societ\
members are $5.

etbook taking a major
hit. I got to spend time
with some of m\ favor-
ite people (and canines)
doing fun things.
Thanks to a luck\
draw at work, I won tick-
ets to Thursda\ night’s
Farm-Cit\ Pro Rodeo.
M\ husband, -ohn, and I
even got hospitalit\ tent
passes for a free dinner.
I’ve been to a num-
ber of rodeos over the
\ears, including that one
in Pendleton. And, all I
gotta sa\ is Farm-Cit\ is
the best ² hands down
There’s nothing quite
like being in a box seat
so close to the action that
dirt from the arena À ies
into \our lap.
John and I took our
German shepherds, Lu-
cifer and the General, to
the river Frida\ morn-
ing. We had great fun
taking a dip in the water
and prett\ much had the
beach to ourselves.
I do have a shiner be-
low m\ left e\e. In his
exuberance, the General
rammed m\ sunglasses
into m\ face. I think the
goof\ gu\ thought I was
hiding from him (we of-
ten pla\ hide-and-seek)
and ran smack dab into
me.
Although the rea-
son for the event was a
somber one, Ron’s Pink
Memorial Part\ was
