Nancy
Knowles and Thomas
Madden, the event is

$rts, 214 N. Main St. It’s
free and open to the pub-
lic.
Knowles is a professor
of English and writing at
Eastern Oregon Universi-
ty and was the director of
the Oregon Writing Proj-
ect at EOU for more than
10 years. She publishes
primarily literary analysis
and articles on teaching
English and writing and
has been invited to read
her poetry at the Round-
house Reading Series and
the Eastern Oregon Word
Round-Up.
Madden believes that
good poems grow out of
the imagination’s inter-
section with both person-
al and cultural history,
as well as landscape. He
is especially interested
in the role of his poetic
imagination as it encoun-
ters his own European
heritage and the impact
of that heritage in the
United States. He’s been
a reporter, a college writ-
ing and journalism in-
structor and playwright.
He is writing a third col-
lection of poems, tenta-
tively titled “The Silas
Chronicles.”
$fter readings by the
featured writers, audi-
ence members may par-
ticipate in short open
mic sessions to read their
own original poems or
stories.
