Ray P. Gallon, 97, of
Hermiston died on Mon-
day, January 18, 2016, in
Hermiston surrounded by
his family. He was born on
Sept. 26, 1918, in
Fleming, Colorado.
He was a mem-
ber of the Method-
ist Church for many
years, and also a
lifetime member of
the Hermiston Elks
Lodge. Golf, danc- Gallon
ing and travel kept
him active until his later
years. He loved life, friends
and being around his fam-
ily.
He was preceded in
death by his wife Wyoma
and son Larry Gallon. He
is survived by his daughter
Barbara Lumaguip and son-
in-law Ron Lum-
aguip, ¿ve grand-
children and several
great-grandchildren.
At his request, no
services will be held.
Disposition was by
cremation.

Irene Alice Schlaht, age
92, of Hermiston, Oregon,
died January 18th, 2016, at
Guardian Angel Homes in
Hermiston. She was born
August 7, 1923, in
Streeter, North Da-
kota, to parents Jacob
and Helen (Hoches-
tetter) Graff.
Irene
married
Lloyed Schlaht on
June 15th, 1944. She
lived in Cleveland,
N.D.; Montana; Top-
penish and Zillah, Wash.;
Hayden Lake, Idaho; Pend-
leton and Gladstone, Ore.;
and Spokane, Wash. She
lived in Stan¿eld and Herm-
iston since 1989.
She was a housewife and
mother of three, but also
opened her home to foster chil-
dren. She always had a garden
and wanted to share the har-
vest. She worked in the sum-
mers picking grapes and fruit
so she could send the children
to a Christian school. She was
a member of the Seventh-day
Adventist Church. Faith has
always been very important
in Irene’s life and was always
active in the church. She also
enjoyed reading and writing
poems. One that you often
hear her say was “You can talk
about me all you please, and
I’ll talk about you down on
my knees.”
Some of the things she
loved to do: sewing; painting
pictures, especially old barns
and ocean scenes; collecting
rocks and dolls; camping,
and ¿shing. She was also a
great German cook and loved
family
gatherings.
She was a member of
the Hermiston Rock
Club. She worked by
her husband’s side in
starting the Stan¿eld
Food Bank, ¿lling
boxes of food for the
hungry.
She was preced-
ed in death by her husband,
Lloyed Schlaht in 2007; par-
ents Jacob and Helen Graff;
and brothers Ervin, Walter,
Edward and Robert.
She is survived by her
sons Terry Schlaht and Rog-
er Schlaht, both of Hermis-
ton, Ore.; daughter Pamela
Grif¿n of Pendleton, Ore.;
grandchildren Troy, Lynette,
Jason, Chad, Travis and Jeff;
and
great-grandchildren
Ayla, Emily, Jacob, Tyler,
Connor and Isaac.

Barbara Ann Carrera
was born on July 27, 1960,
in Platte, South Dakota, to
parents Anton and Viola
Kolb Petrak. She died on
January 13, 2016, at
her home in Herm-
iston, Oregon, at the
age of 55 years.
She was raised
and attended school
in
Chamberlain,
South Dakota, grad-
uating in the class Carrera
of 1978. Barbara
was united in marriage to
Jesus Carrera on November
28, 1980, in Chamberlain,
South Dakota, and they
moved to Hermiston, Ore-
gon.
She worked at JR Sim-
plot in Hermiston, Oregon,
for 25 years. She operated a
daycare for a few years and
as an Avon representative.
Barbara was a member of
Our Lady of Angels Cath-
olic Church, Hermiston,
Oregon. She enjoyed cro-
cheting, soap operas, real-
ity 7V, camping, ¿shing,
and cherished time with her
grandchildren.
She is survived by her
husband of 35 years, Je-
sus Carrera, Hermiston,
Ore.; son Tony Carrera and

1:17 a.m. - A Stanfield resident
reported he sold a couch on Craigslist
to a man who overpaid him, then
demanded the caller return the
overpayment. The bank called it fraud
and put a hold on the check. The caller
requested a call from Stanfield police.
12:20 p.m. - A resident of Echols
Road, Hermiston, reported the theft
of a red 2012 Honda 420 quad bike.
1:02 p.m. - A resident of West
Columbia Lane, Hermiston, requested
burglary charges be filed against her
daughter’s boyfriend, who broke into
her house and stole her dog.

8:03 p.m. - A caller at Green Acres
Mobile Home Park, 80542 Paterson
Ferry Road, Irrigon, requested contact
from a Morrow County sheriff’s
deputy “within 60 seconds or he was
going to beat someone up.”

1:54 p.m. - A caller at Lakeview
Heights on Willow Creek Road near
Heppner called the Morrow County
Sheriff’s Office with concerns about
someone who had talked about
jumping off the Willow Creek Dam.
4:30 p.m. - Umatilla police
received a report of a break-in of a
building on Sixth Street.
7:24 p.m. - The Boardman ambu-
lance transported an employee who
had been shocked by an electrical
cable at Oregon Potato, 650 N.E.
Columbia Ave., Boardman.
FRIDAY, JAN. 15
3:18 a.m. - A woman called the
Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office to
report someone broke into her car
and stole her purse while parked at a
residence at East Punkin Center and
Glemm roads, Hermiston.
11:42 p.m. - Umatilla County Sheriff’s
Office received a report of shots fired
in the area of Cottonwood Bend and
Westland roads, near the railroad tracks.
2:42 a.m. - A Heppner caller re-
ported she saw someone in a vehicle
at the end of her driveway on Little
Butter Creek Road going through her
mail. She pointed a flashlight down
the driveway and the car took off.

pleaded guilty to Negotiating Bad Check;
sentenced to 180 days jail-suspended, 2

County Sheriff’s Office reported four
controlled burns at the following
locations: the former Umatilla Army
Depot; 27300 Buttercreek Road, Echo;
Kik Road one block north of West
Punkin Center Road, Hermiston; and
three miles north of Highway 37 on
Nelson Grade.
6:30 p.m. - A caller told Umatilla
police a male and female were fight-
ing, there were screams and a loud
“thump” against the wall.

because someone tried to get into his
apartment.
7:54 p.m. - A caller from Salem
told the Umatilla County Sheriff’s
Office someone stole his horse trailer
from a site on East Punkin Center
Road, Hermiston.
TUESDAY, JAN. 12
7:22 a.m. - A Stanfield resident
reported a 31-year-old man has been
gone for several days. The caller said
he left with others to pick up pallets
and take them to Pendleton and was
to be back Monday afternoon but has
not been in touch since leaving, and his
cellphone goes straight to voice mail.
9:57 a.m. - A Umatilla-area
woman reported a male is staying
in a silver and green Ford pickup on
property next to hers for the last year.
She asked law enforcement to check
on him because he watches her niece
and she is not sure he is allowed to
be there. She also asked about extra
patrols through the area.
7:04 p.m. - A caller in Echo
reported people in a silver Dodge
pickup were “spotlighting” along
Snow Road and this has been going
on for the past few months. The caller
asked for law enforcement to talk to
the spotlighters.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
•Oregon State Police cited Omar
M. Resendiz, 20, Boardman, for driv-
ing under the influence of controlled
substances.
•Hermiston police arrested Justin
James Sanders, 32, of Hermiston, for
possession of methamphetamine and
violating parole.
•Hermiston police arrested Brittany
Ashton Abbott, 20, address not provided,
on charges of possession of metham-
phetamine and third-degree theft.
•Hermiston police also arrested
Robert Miguel Aguilera, 32, address
not provided, for felon in possession
of a weapon and on a Washington
state fugitive warrant.
•A Kennewick police officer called
Umatilla police and reported Leon
Glenn Wagoner, 50, sold 800 pounds
of copper wire to Pacific Recycling,
Kennewick, and was heading back
to Oregon. Wagoner was wanted on
a warrant and is a possible suspect
in thefts in Umatilla County. Umatilla
police caught Wagoner at about 2
p.m. at Interstate 82 and Highway
207 and booked him into the Umatilla
County Jail, Pendleton.
•Oregon State Police arrested
Keith Thomas Hanson, 53, of Heppner,
for driving under the influence of
intoxicants.
