Blue Tattoo is hosting a Rock and Roll Revival New Year’s Eve Classic Rock Masquerade
Thursday at the Hermiston Conference Center.
Blue Tattoo cranks things
up for New Year’s Eve
By TAMMY MALGESINI
Community Editor
A familiar Hermis-
ton-based classic rock cover
band will ring in the new
year during a Rock and Roll
Revival Classic Rock Mas-
querade.
Kelly Nobles, Blue Tat-
too founder and drummer,
said the band has been play-
ing out of the area a lot re-
cently and it was time to
come home.
“And what better way to
ring in the new year than a
rock revival,” he said.
The New Year’s Eve
event is Thursday from 7
p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Hermis-
ton Conference Center, 415
S. Highway 395. Advance
tickets for the 21-and-old-
er event are $25/couple or
$15/single. They are avail-
able at www.facebook.com/
events/566329666854525,
the conference center or by
calling 541-571-2588. Tick-
ets purchased at the door are
$20 each.
The event also features
TroubleMaker, a classic
rock band from the Tri-Cit-
ies. The ticket price includes
party favors, prizes for best
rock and roll costumes, best
tattoo and best air guitar.
Also, food and a no-host bar
is being handled by Stuart
Rice of The Midway Tav-
ern.
Gene Miller, the group’s
lead singer, is hoping people
will get into the masquerade
and come dressed as their
favorite musicians.
Blue Tattoo has been per-
forming since 2007. They
kicked things up a notch
after winning the inaugural
Battle of the Bands during
the 2011 Umatilla County
Fair.
Since then, they have
been hobnobbing with a
number of well-known
bands. This summer they
hung out with the likes of
Queensryche, Twisted Sis-
ter, Jefferson Starship, April
Wine and Fran Cosmo, for-
mer lead singer of Boston,
while performing at the 15th
annual Rockin’ the Rivers
music festival in Montana.
Also, the band has
brought a number of per-
formers to town to play, in-
cluding Frank Hannon, gui-
tarist for Tesla, and RAIL,
who Nobles also plays
drums with.
Nobles said Blue Tat-
too audiences are treated to
some awesome vocals with
Miller as lead singer. His
vocal range, Nobles said, is
among the best. The rest of
the band, Nobles said, also
possesses a lot of talent.
They include Johnny Jag-
ger (keyboards and backing
vocals) Juaquin Esparza
(lead/backing guitars and
vocals) Paul Inserra (bass
guitar and backing vocals)
and Lee Oswald (lead/back-
ing guitars, backing vocals).
Although the average
age of the band members
is around 50, the boys can
rock, Nobles said.
“The guys all get out and
sell it and we have a crown
jewel with Gene,” Nobles
said. “He’s all over the stage.
He’s very charismatic.”
Miller said the band is
like a family and they enjoy
what they do. In addition, he
said the crowds seem to like
them, too.
“We play a lot of the mu-
sic people want to hear,”
Miller said.
If the event goes well, No-
bles and Miller said it could
become a yearly tradition.
