his holiday season, please take a moment to
recognize the important service our non-prof-
it organizations provide to improve lives in Eastern
Oregon. Some organizations feed the hungry and
shelter the homeless. Some support our schools and
disadvantaged children. Some help animals and wild-
life, or work to improve the environment. Others teach,
entertain and delight — making our lives richer in so
many ways.
Many non-profi ts operate on a shoestring budget, de-
pending on donations and grants. Their board mem-
bers are volunteers, and staff members are rarely highly
paid. For most, it’s a labor of love. The value of what
they provide to their community is often immeasurable.
This is our fi rst-ever Giving Guide. We hope to make it
an annual publication — a place to list, honor and cele-
brate the non-profi t organizations of Umatilla and Mor-
row counties. Thank you to the businesses who helped
us launch this effort.
We hope this guide will inspire everyone to think about
what you can do to help those organizations that are
near and dear to your heart. Whether you can give a
cash or in-kind donation, attend a fundraising event,
donate your time as a volunteer or join a board of di-
rectors, you’ll know that whatever you can give to a
non-profi t will be passed on and will help others.
Happy Holidays from all of us,
Kathryn B. Brown
