Bulldog Bash welcomes four-legged friends

Mylee and Tucker, a couple
of bulldogs owned by John and
Jordawn Wambeke, are hoping to
meet more of their kind.
Jordawn Wambeke, who is or-
ganizing the event, is hoping her
canine kids can meet some new
puppy pals this weekend during
the Bulldog Bash. All types of
bulldogs are welcome to the meet
and greet, which is Saturday from
10-11 a.m. at McKenzie Park, 320
S. First St., Hermiston. The event
is being held during Hermiston’s
Own Saturday Market.
Characterized by a large head,
boxy build and shortened muz-
zles, bulldogs may look ferocious.
Although, the American Kennel
Club reports their personalities are
generally calm, courageous and

amusing.
Wambeke has had German
shepherds, dachshunds, New-
foundland dogs, a blue heeler and
mutts. She has always wanted a
bulldog, and now has two.
Tucker, who is 2, joined the
Wambeke pack as a re-homed
special needs dog. He initially
needed a lot of tender loving care,
Wambeke said. He’s now quite the
sweetheart. Mylee, who is 4, is
deaf and knows sign language.
“They are so lovable and have
so much character,” Wambeke
said about bulldogs. “But you get
out of a dog what you put into a
dog. It’s important to have the time
to do so.”
Known to strike up conversa-
tions with other bulldog owners,
Wambeke recently met Bella, who
was happily riding in a red pick-up
with her owners. She invited them
and is looking forward to seeing
lots of bulldogs during the event
— maybe even expanding the so-
cial network of her pooches.
“Although, Tucker and Mylee
pretty much keep up with their so-
cial status at the park regularly,”
Wambeke said.
