M a r k
Jones, long-
time teacher,
coach
and
administra-
tor for Mor-
row County
School Dis-
trict, passed away
on Sept. 7th at home
surrounded by family
and close friends af-
ter a short but ¿erce
battle with pancreatic
cancer.
Mark was born in Jones
Richmond, Califor-
nia, February 25, 1956, and
spent his childhood in the
San Francisco bay area. His
family moved to El Centro,
California, in his early teens,
then moved once again to
Oregon City where he grad-
uated from high school. He
attended and played football
for Clackamas Community
College and met his wife,
Jocelyn. In 1975 he joined
the Marines where he was
trained in helicopter avion-
ics. He loved Àying and sum-
mer camps. After complet-
ing his Marine training, he
played football and ¿nished
his bachelor’s degree at East-
ern Oregon State University
and joined the Oregon Na-
tional Guard.
He married Jocelyn in
1979 and started his teach-
ing career in Culver, Ore-
gon, where he taught sixth
grade with a group of sea-
soned women that taught
him the “rules.” He also
began coaching — not foot-
ball, but wrestling, a sport
he had never participated in
as an athlete, but learned and
loved. In 1984, he and his
wife moved to Ione, Oregon,
where he continued teaching
sixth grade and coaching,
this time football and bas-
ketball. During his tenure in
Ione, he attended the Oregon
Military Academy, earning
his of¿cer’s commission in
the National Guard where he
served for another 16 years
at armories in Hermiston
and Milton-Freewater and
¿nishing back at the Mili-
tary Academy as Director of
Instruction. He was proud to
serve and truly enjoyed the
camaraderie.
He and his wife, and now
son Jace (1987), moved to
Boardman where he taught at
AC Houghton and Riverside
High School. His daughter
Kelli was born in
1992.
Mark
earned his mas-
ter’s
degree
at WSU and
started his ad-
ministrative
career at Riv-
erside High School.
He soon became prin-
cipal at Windy River
and ¿nally ¿nished
once again at AC
Houghton, this time
as principal.
Mark’s children
were his pride and
joy. He loved being a dad
and made sure he always
supported his kids, whether
it was coaching or of¿ciat-
ing one of their youth sports
teams or spectating at their
high school and college sport
events. He was a 4-H live-
stock and leadership leader
for many years in Boardman,
encouraging his children
and many others to enjoy
learning about and showing
market animals at the fair.
He also served as a Morrow
County Fair Board member.
Mark was especially proud
that both Jace and Kelli com-
pleted their college degrees,
both have careers they en-
joy, and married wonderful
spouses. He was able to meet
and hold his ¿rst grandchild,
Jarett Anthony, August 26th.
Mark enjoyed boating and
water skiing in his younger
years and jet skiing with his
wife as he got older. He deer
and elk hunted for 40 years
with his best friend Roger
and loved camping at Hells
Canyon every summer with
the Jones and Upshaw crew.
He is survived by his wife
Jocelyn, son Jace and his
wife Jamie and grandson Jar-
ett Jones; daughter Kelli and
her husband Kyle Langford;
and sisters Dawn and her
husband Aaron Shoemate,
Lori Alvarez, and Chealyn
Allensworth.
A celebration of Mark’s
life was held Saturday, Sep-
tember 12th at at the AC
Houghton gym in Irrigon.
The family suggests do-
nating a children’s book to
the AC Houghton Elementa-
ry library.

Mariann Lee O’Larey,
67, of Tacoma entered into
eternal life on September
4, 2015, surrounded by her
children and family. Her
spirit is carried on by
her mother, four chil-
dren, six grandkids,
one great-grandchild,
four siblings, and an
extended family of
relations and friends
from every walk of
O’Larey
life.
Mariann
was
born in Portland, Oregon,
to Yvonne and Harold Sei-
bel on September 27, 1947.
She graduated from Sher-
idan High School in 1965.
In 1970 she married her
soul mate, Bob O’Larey.
Her younger sister once
said, “Along with their best
friends, the Oswalds, they
were like the rat pack of
their time — funny beyond
belief, fearless, smart, coura-
geous, great cooks, positive
thinking, successful, loving,
helped countless people and
trendsetters. Everyone loved
them and wanted to hang
with them.”
Mariann raised her chil-
dren at home until Bob
passed away in 1981, and
then went to work selling
cars in Tacoma. She was a
pioneer in this man’s pro-
fession. She was a top sales-
woman at Millam Ford and
then became one of the ¿rst
women to sell F&I for Ste-
ven’s Motor Company.
Mariann was in love with
her grandchildren. On their
“date night” she’d cook them
lobster tail or when they got
older she’d let them drive
a car before they should.
She was the cool nana with
a style all of her own. The
woman had a strong pres-
ence about her, never missed
an opportunity to laugh and
did exactly what she wanted.
You were either laughing or
in shock by what came out
of her mouth.
Her hobbies included
Rosalie Prior passed
away at her home peace-
fully Friday, September
11, 2015, at the age of 79.
Rosalie was born on
April 18, 1936,
in El Paso, Texas,
and was always
proud of her Texas
heritage and fam-
ily. She graduated
from high school
and was employed
at a jewelry store Prior
when she met her
husband of 43 years,
Chester Prior, who was
working at White Sands
Missile Base. Together
they moved cross coun-
try to Warden, Washing-
ton, to rejoin the family
farming business and
start a family together,
raising three sons: Mi-
chael, Arthur and David
Prior.
Rosalie was a devoted
wife, mother, and home-
maker who was known
for her gourmet cooking
and spicy style. She sang
in the church choir while
in Warden, Washington,
often times risking slick
roads to get to choir
practice because she
loved to sing so much.
Many times in the after-
noon she could be found
playing her Gibson gui-
tar and singing. Rosalie
bowled in league, was
an avid rock and crystal
collector, and became
quite accomplished at
playing tennis. She en-
joyed traveling often to
daily talks with her mother,
gardening, cooking, trav-
eling, collecting recipes,
gambling, crafts, and telling
you how it is. Mariann was
always mothering. At
times she took care of
her siblings, her chil-
dren’s friends, god-
children, neighbors,
and the occasional
stranger. She will be
remembered most
for raising amazing
children on her own,
her humor, her incredible
strength, her nice legs, and
leaving impressions on ev-
eryone she met.
Survived by her moth-
er, 87, of Portland; her
children: Jerry of Tacoma,
Wash. (wife Odette, chil-
dren Jordan and Sebastian,
and great-grandchild Noah);
Priscilla of Corvallis, Ore.
(husband Vernon, children
Jonathon and Logan); Rob-
ert of Bellingham, Wash.
(wife Cristina, children Mi-
kaela and Robert); and her
baby Hillary of Puyallup,
Wash.; and siblings Robert,
Eddie, Judy, and Lawrence.
Mariann is reunited with
her husband, the love of her
life and party partner, Rob-
ert C. O’Larey, and is pre-
deceased by her father, four
siblings and her beloved
niece, Natasha.
Mass was held at St.
John of the Woods Catholic
Church, 9903 24th Ave. E.,
Tacoma, Friday, September
11 at 12:30 p.m., followed
by the burial service where
she was laid to rest with
Bobby at Calvary Catho-
lic Cemetery. Friends (and
strangers she would love to
have met) were invited to
visit with Mariann’s family
for debauchery at the Silver
Cloud Inn, September 11 at
5 p.m.
In her memory, donations
may be made to her grand-
children’s higher education
at any Chase Bank in her
name.
Phoenix and Tucson,
Arizona, during the win-
ter months to enjoy time
with her immediate fam-
ily in the warm Arizona
sun and to attend
rock and mineral
shows. In her later
days she was fond
of her never-end-
ing landscaping
and Àower grow-
ing affair. Rosalie
was a member of
the Greater Herm-
iston Chamber Ambas-
sadors. Together with
Chester, Rosalie was
founder and owner of
Eagle Ranch. She was
wise beyond her years
and always loved to give
advice, often times taken
with a grain of salt, but
loved anyway.
She is survived by
her sons Michael, Ar-
thur and David Prior;
grandsons Jack and Joe;
granddaughter Nadia;
sisters Alice Madrid,
Rosie Vega and Yolanda
Lucero; brother Rudolph
Lucero; and her dog
Mika.
A private family ser-
vice will be held.
Those who wish may
make contributions in
Rosalie’s memory to the
