Pet of week
Today's Weather
Hi, my name is Coconut. I am a male
border collie and Australian shepherd-mix
available for adoption at the Humane Soci-
ety of Eastern Oregon Pet Rescue in Herm-
iston.
I was surrendered by my owner with a
litter of puppies, and I need a new home.
I’ve already had my shots, and I am good
with children and other dogs. I am 8 to 9
months old and can be adopted for $150. I
come with a free vet check and a three-day
return policy. If I am neutered at 6 months
of age, my owner will receive a $50 refund.
If you are interested in welcoming Co-
conut to your family, please stop by the
humane society at 1844 N.W. Geer Road,
Hermiston, or call 541-564-6222.

NEWS IN BRIEF
Hermiston schools
pull foods with cumin
The Hermiston School District announced
this week all foods containing cumin were pulled
from school menus after the Food and Drug Ad-
ministration warned consumers this week that
some shipments of products with cumin tested
positive for peanut protein, making them danger-
ous to people with peanut allergies.
As a precaution, the HSD food contractor,
Chartwells School Dining Services, is adjust-
ing menus and pulling foods containing cumin
to ensure students with peanut allergies are not
exposed to potential allergens until the distri-
bution chain is cleared.
