Electronics, food and toilet
paper among items stolen
BY SEAN HART
HERMISTON HERALD
The Umatilla Chamber of Com-
merce was ransacked this week, and
a wide variety of items were stolen,
from electronics to toilet paper.
Executive Director Karen Hutchin-
son-Talaski said her assistant arrived
Tuesday and discovered someone had
thrown a large rock through the front
door and trashed the facility on Cline
Avenue.
Hutchinson-Talaski said a safe
with $60 in petty cash, two comput-
ers, a printer, two monitors, speak-
ers, a television and DVD player, a
portable heater and a vacuum clean-
er were stolen, along with a gas can,
a jar of peanut butter, a box of mac-
aroni and cheese, six rolls of paper
towels and all but one roll of toilet
paper.
“I can’t believe they took the toilet
paper,” she said. “It’s not like they’re
regular rolls of toilet paper. They’re
the big ones you see in stores and
restaurants. There were like 15 rolls
back there. It’s really weird. It’s just
bizarre.”
She estimated the value of the sto-
len items to be between $3,000 and
$4,000.
She said the perpetrators were pre-
paring to steal other items, as well,
including a third computer and a bag
full of cleaning supplies.
“They got interrupted, I think, be-
cause they left some stuff,” Hutchin-
son-Talaski said. “It looked like they
were getting ready to take the refrig-
erator too because they had unplugged
everything.”
Fortunately, she said all of the data
on the computers was saved on the
cloud, so that information is not lost.
Hutchinson-Talaski said Umatilla
Police Department investigated the

“I have faith in the police depart-
ment, and I really feel like they’re
going to get these guys,” she said. “It
may not be tomorrow, and it may not
be next week, but I think they’re go-
ing to catch them.”
Umatilla Police Chief Darla Huxel
was not available to comment.
