At a recent School Board meet­
ing of District 61, Mrs. Verletta
Weltzin of Echo was hired to
teach in the grades. The commit-
tee to compile the budget was Mr.
N. D. Bard, Mrs. Roy G. Penney
and Mr. Don Childs.
Wiley Hewitt left Seattle May
30 for Ketchikan Alaska, where
he will have charge of the Com-
issary. Gilbert Smith and Billy
Gilbert will join him about June
15 when the fishing operations
begin.
Mrs. John O’Gorman and son,
Mike of Umatilla are the guests
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Swaney.
Mrs. Ida Clute is spending 10
days in Portland.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Willson
left this week for Clatskanie to
make their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Muir and
sons returned Saturday night
from Payette. Idaho. They alos
visited in Boise where Kenneth
purchased more books for his
library. Mr. Muir returned earlier
in the weeek.

Mrs. Lester Willson of Stanfield,
Sunday.
Marlene Markham, daughter of
Myrtle Markham, is in Portland
this week where she plans to at-
tend the Ice Follies.
Gertrude Walls is a new em-
ployee in the Box Factory having
transferred from the Carpenter
Shop.
Mrs. Etta McFall, Mr. and Mrs.
Howard and family. and Mr. and
Mrs. Harold McFall of Pomeroy,
Wash., were guests of Mr. and
William Zobrust, were out with
reel and rod the other day. An­
ther caught one as long as—oh!
just skip it!
Mrs. Bernice Shanks, RN and
Mrs. Masterson are away on an­
nual. Both are visiting in Idaho.
Kathleen Gergen, RN, was
worried about 1945 Income Tax.
She had a deep premonition she
would win the $1,000 bond at the
Friday night get-together. Better
luck next time, “Gergie.”

Mrs. David Horne entertained
on May 24, at her home near Mc­
Kay dam, the members of the
Neighborhood Club and their
mothers. Fifteen children were
also present. They were directed
in their play and served refresh­
ments by Miss Horne.
Contest games and cordial con­
versation furnished amusement
for the elders, and prizes were
awarded.
Those present were Mrs. Elder,
Mrs. Ritcheson, Mrs. Floyd Patton
Mrs. J. F. Baker, Mrs. Vlassenroot
Mrs. Hedrick, Mrs. Lee Horne,
Mrs. Chas. Ebel, Mrs. Marvin Car­

Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Hedrick and

the 30th of the Lowell Caplingers.
The occasion was the Hedrick’s
thirtieth wedding anniversary,
thev having been married in Walla
Walla in 1915.
Robert Shipley from Lostine
has arrived to spend the summer
on his father, Ernest Shipley’s
farm east of town.
Mrs. Charles.Connor and Dolor­
es from Arlington spent a few
days here visiting her mother,
Mrs. U. G. Shipley and other
relatives. She says that her son,
Leonold has had 37 months in the
Quartermaster Corps. 17 months
of which were spent in Ireland,
but he has now returned to Eng­
land.
Sgt. Tommy Loughary his wife
and son Pat arrived home for
Memorial day. and were guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Loughary.
Lt. Earl Attebury from the
Pacific and Mr. and Mrs. Eddie
Attebury and children of Kla­
math Falls arrived for a week or
longer visit with their parents

employed at the D. L. Johnson
ranch.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Emerson and
daughter Betty Lou are spending
a week in Portland. Mr. Emerson
for medical treatment.

as guests over the week end his
brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs.
Norton and Aunt Ora Laws of
