Mrs. Alton Kingsbury of Neot-
su. Ore., was a business visitor in
Hermiston Thursday and Friday.
Merrill Jenkins of Umatilla en­
tered the Hermiston General hos­
pital on Tuesday for medical care.
Mrs. Fred Erickson is up and
around again after being confined
to her home more than a week due
to the flu.
Mrs. Fred Rauch spent several
days in Spokane the past week
looking after business interest and
visiting friends there.
Bruce Norton and Vance Matott
have returned home.

passed their physicals for the Na-
vy and are awaiting call.
Brierley’s 5 to 25c store has
been completely redecorated in­
side this week and presents a neat
appearance.
Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Hendricks
left Monday for Ontario, Ore., to
visit with friends and also to look
after business interests there. Earl
has been employed as mechanic at
the Hermiston Auto Co. the past
several months.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pearson left
Monday for Tillamook for an in­
definite visit with their daughter
and family.
Mrs. Marjorie Barber of Ukiah
is now receiving medical care in
the Hermiston hospital, having
been admitted there Tuesday.
Miss Esther Kittilsen of Her­
miston was admitted to the Her­
miston hospital last Friday for
medical care.
Mr. and Mrs. Leander Quiring
and daughter Sylvia left Sunday
for Salem and Dallas to spend a
few days with their relatives and
friends.
Ben Connor, proprietor of the
Pheasant Cafe, is adding a walk-in
meat storage refrigerator to the
facilities of his establishment this
week.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Isaac
Brock of Hermiston a daughter,
Sandra Louise, weight 8 lbs., 15
ounces, at the Hermiston hospital
last Friday afternoon.
A son, James Eldon, weight 6
lbs. 1212 ozunces, was born to Mr.
and Mrs. L. C. Waldpole of Stan­
field at the Hermiston hospital
early Wednesday morning.
Mrs. Bud Hooker and infant
daughter, Pamela Lou, were able
to leave the Hermiston hospital
Sunday for their home in the Col­
umbia district.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wilson are
moving this week into the house
vacated by Mr. and Mrs. E. E.
Hendricks just west of the Legion
hall on east Main street.
Eddie Isensee, chief petty offic­
er, U.S. Navy, came Monday morn­
ing for a 2-day visit with his par­
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Baumgart­
ner of Hermiston.

Postoffice Building Progresses
Workmen this week poured the
first concrete for the foundation
for the new postoffice building on
east Main street in Hermiston and
now the work is progressing rap­
idly. Frank Sargent, local con­
tractor, is supervising the con-1
struction of this needed addition |
to Hermiston and surrounding ter-1
ritory.

Vic Addleman, from St. Anthony’s
hospital Saturday after having
been there for three weeks.
The George Turner residence on
west Hermiston avenue which was
gutted by flames three months ago
is being rebuilt on a larger foun­
dation and workmen this week are
ready to shingle the roof.
Dayton Harris returned Monday
from LaGrande after having spent
several days visiting at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Paul VanPatten.
Mrs. Harris and son Michael re­
mained for a longer visit.
Hermiston business people with­
drew from their tasks early yes­
terday morning to view thirty
bombers from the Walla Walla air
base cruising in formation over the
city.
Pvt. Jack Rogers left Thursday
of last week for Fort Benning, Ga.,
after having spent a 10-day fur­
lough with his grandparents and
other relatives and friends. Jack
is a paratrooper.
Dr. I. C. Bohlman performed a
tonsilectomy at the Hermiston
General hospital Monday upon
Melvin Volkman. 6, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Oliver C. Volkman of
Hermiston.
Miss Peggy Todd left Wednes­
day for Vancouver, Wash., where
she will make her home with her
sister. Miss Virginia Todd, at the
McLoughlin Heights, and will be
employed there for the summer
months.
Mrs. Hugh Fraser and daughter
Nancy left Monday for Portland
to spend a week visiting at the
home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs.
B. S. Kingsley. "Butch,” their
Scottie dog, made the trip with
them.
Miss Nancy Wines entertained
Thursday night of last week at the
I home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
| M. L. Watson, a group of 16 young
people of the sophomore class. The
I evening was spent in playing
. games and later refreshments
| were served.
Mrs. Lloyd Harry man of Route
2, Hermiston. received word this
| week that her brother-in-law, Cor­
poral John Frederick, had been
i released from a prison camp
where he had been since October
1 17, 1944. His wife, the former
, Miss Agness Roberts, lives at Ore­
gon City.
I Cpl. Albert Isensee arrived Mon- |
day from Dyersburg. Tenn., for a
3-day visit in Hermiston with his
parents. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Baum­
gartner. who reside on Ridgeway
avenue. Albert is a gunner in the [
air corps and had a 10-day leave |
but was called back Wednesday. 1
He expects to go overseas upon |
arrival at his Lase

had the pleasure of spending one
| day leave with his nephew, La-
vern E. Thompson. E.M. 2/c, of
Lakeview, Ore., on Aahu in the
Hawaiian Islands. on the 26th of
I | April, and also met Frank Stone,
| and a pal from Prosser, Wash..
| and enjoyed talking over old times
and school days.
First Lt. Wayne Power is spend-
, ing 30 days leave in Pendleton
| with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
| Philip Power at 2016 S. W. Emi­
grant ave. He will return to the
army ordnance base at Santa Mon­
ica, Calif., for reassignment, hav­
ing spent three years in the supply
section with the Fifth Air Force
in the Southwest Pacific theater.
The Power family are former
Hermiston residents.
