dleton was a week end guest of
Miss Peggy Todd.
Mrs. L. W. Douglas of Pendle­
ton arrived last Thursday to spend
a week with relatives here.
Mrs. R. E. Alstott entered the
Hermiston General hospital Sat­
urday suffering from pneumonia.
Mrs. Marie Olsen and daughter
of Arcata, Calif., is visiting at the
home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Hartley.
Geo. Harris entered the Her
miston General hospital Wednes
day morning suffering from
heart attack.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ray of
Portland were overnight guests at
the home of their daughter, Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Davison.
Mrs. Marvel Walpole returned
to her home in Stanfield after a
several day stay at the Hermiston
General hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kennedy
of Portland visited at the home
of her father, Lewis Fales, last
week.

the Hermiston Hotel and expects
to construct a modern bake shop.
Little Jean Williams, who is 3
vears old. entered the Hermiston
General hospital Sunday to re­
ceive medical attention for sever­
al davs for ear infection.

Mrs. George Liebe returned to
her home in Columbia district af­
ter spending several weeks at the
Hermiston General hospital.
Mrs. Ella Kirk, who has been
employed at the Dillard French
ranch at Pilot Rock, returned
home Monday for a short stay.
Mrs. Alta Knerr, who in recent
months has been in Port Orford,
Ore., with her son and family, is
in Hermiston this week. She is
disposing her property on Gladys
Avenue.
Mrs. May Addleman. who was
taken to St. Anthony’s hospital in
Pendleton last week following a
stroke, is reported as some better,
although she is still very weak.
Relatives of the family have visit­
ed her during the past ten days.
Sgt. and Mrs. R. M. Harris of
Monterev, Calif., have been visit-
ing at the home of
parents.
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Harris for two
weeks. Sgt. Harris returned to
Fort Ord, but Mrs. Harris will re­
main for a longer visit.
Mrs. Ina Whitney returned this
week from a two month’s visit in
Petaluma, Calif., with her daugh­
ter, Mrs. Barbara Rutherford. She
also visited in San Diego and Hol-
Ivwood with other relatives. Mr.
Rutherford is now stationed in
San Diego.
Mr. and Mrs. John W. Graves
of the Columbia district have sold
their 20 acre farm in the Colum­
bia district to M. Brown of Lex­
ington. The Browns are former­
ly of Portland. The ranch is well
improved and the new owners
will move here in the near future.
Mrs. H. K. Iverson and son Dean
are moving to Hermiston and have
purchased one of the new houses
on Ridgeway Avenue. Mrs. Iver­
son arrived this week and will go
to Portland this week end to get
her son who has been staying with
relatives there. Capt. Iverson re-
centlv left for overseas duty with
the Army Engineers.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kupers
and baby of Honolulu spent today
(Thursday) with his sister and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Russell.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wilcox en­
tertained at their home with two
tables of pinochle Monday night.
Mrs. Al Langenwalter won high
score and Chas. Wilcox low score.
Mrs. Eudora K. McBee of Walla
Walla passed away at the Hermis­
ton General hospital Tuesday af­
ter having been at the hospital for
six weeks. Marshall, Calloway &
Hennessy, funeral directors, called
for the body for burial at Walla
Walla.
Mrs. R. Alexander, mother of
Mrs. E. P. Dodd, suffered an un­
fortunate accident Tuesday when
she fell from a chair, breaking her
right thigh bone. She was taken
to St. Anthony's hospital in Pen­
dleton where she is getting along
as well as can be expected.

are leaving Friday night by train
from Pendleton for Cincinnatti,
Ohio, to visit relatives, and then
to Lebanon, Ind., to pick up a
school bus which they will drive
back, They then plan to visit at
his old home town of Elkhart. In-
diana, They plan to be gone a
month.
O. M. Scott of Portland has pur­
chased the property of Mrs. W. C.
Morehouse just south of the city
limits and will move to Hermis­
ton soon. Mr. Scott, formerly of
Heponer but more recently of
Portland, will engage in dairying,
poultry and hog production in
small proportions. He formerlv
was a prominent wheat grower in
the Heppner area.
Mrs. Claude Loveland and two
children and Mrs. O. L. Townsend
returned last Thursday from a 3-
dav trin to Fruitland. Ida., where
thev visited relatives and friends.
Pvt. Ted Hodge, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Olyn Hodge, recently
loft with U. S. Infantry troops
from San Francisco, headed for
the Pacific war zone

tice of the Peace E. P. Dodd at the
Dodd residence.

A sad incident happened at the
funeral when Rev. John S. White,
65. pastor of the Latter Day Saints
church at Haileyville, Okla., died
the next day as a result of a stroke
suffered while officiating at the
funeral.
