Lloyd Fix of Portland spent a
week at the home of his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Fix.
Fred Erickson is confined to his
home due to illness this week.
Dr. J. P. Stewart, eye-sight
specialist, formerly of Pendleton,
will be at the Hermiston Hotel on
Wednesday, May 9th. Hours 10:00
a. m. to 5:00 p. m.

Mrs. Shinkle returned to her
home Wednesday after a week’s
stay at the local hospital.
The Misses Eleanor Norsby, Lois
Norsby, Annabell Nilsen and Mar-
ion Pierce were week end guests
in Pendleton. All four are asso­
ciated with the Hermiston school
system.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Pearson and
three daughters of Heppner were
Sunday guests at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Pearson.
The W. S. C. S. met at the ban­
quet room of the church with a
noon luncheon Wednesday served
by Mrs. Fred Erickson. Mrs. Jess
Prindle, Mrs. Merton Ransom and
Mrs. Al Quiring as hostess. Thir­
ty-six people were served with a
devotional following the luncheon
led by Mrs. M. Cassiday.
Of much interest to their many
friends is the announcement of the
marriage of Edith Duval of Eu­
gene and Ted Boynton of Hermis­
ton at Walla Walla Monday of
this week. The ceremony was per­
formed by the superior court judge
of that city. Mr. and Mrs. Boyn­
ton will reside on the Harry Kelly
ranch south of Hermiston.

Mrs. Harvey Payne and Mrs. M.
L. Watson were Pendleton visitors
on Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Strong of
Umatilla announce the arrival of
a baby girl 712 pounds born Sun­
day at the Hermiston General hos­
pital. The little Miss is the eighth
little girl in the family. There are
no brothers.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Russell and
family spent Sunday at Helix at
the home of Mrs. Russell's parents
where they met a brother from the
Hawaiian Islands whom they had
not seen for 6 years.
Mrs. C. A. Paul returned from
Seattle last week after spending
six weeks with her mother who
has been ill. Also called by her
illness were four sons and one oth­
er daughter. It was the first time
in three years the family had been
together at once. Her mother is
much improved.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tiller have
received word that their two sons,
Lowell, A.M.M. 3rd class, and Kel­
ly, Private 1st class, U. S. Marines,
recently enjoyed a visit on Guam.
Needless to say, the boys, who had
not seen each other in some time,
spent many happy moments to­
gether. Both are in excellent
health but are quite busy with
their respective duties.
Capt. and Mrs. Bernard Jen-
drzejewski, who spent eight days
of his 21-day furlough visiting his
parents in the Columbia district,
left last Tuesday for Portland
where they will visit their six
aunts and one uncle. They will al­
so go to Klamath Falls where they
will visit his sister-in-law, Mrs.
Walter Jendrzejewski, then con­
tinue on to San Mateo, Calif.,
where they will visit his sister and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Wel­
ter. He will then report to Long
Beach, Calif., for further assign-
ment. This was his first furlough
in his over three years of service
with the A.T.C.

Mrs. Carrie Beitel is receiving
medical care at the Hermiston
General hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Van Patton
and daughter Ilene of LaGrande
arrived Saturday to spend several
days with relatives while Paul had
some dental work done.
Mrs. Walter Sanders returned
last week from the Walla Walla
General hospital. She has made
an excellent recovery from a ma­
jor operation.
Mrs. O. O. Eelthouse and her
mother, Mrs. Barbara Stephens,
spent Saturday and Sunday with
relatives in La Grande. Mrs.
Stephens, who had spent a month
visiting Mrs. Felthouse, remained
in La Grande for a longer visit.
Mrs. May Addleman, who suf­
fered a stroke last Thursday at the
home of her son. Mr. and Mrs. Vic
Addleman, is now somewhat bet­
ter it is reported from St. Antho­
ny's hospital in Pendleton where
she was taken over the week end.
Her condition was quite critical
for a time.
Chas. ‘G. Burk of Stanfield
writes from San Francisco, Calif.,
that he is representing that city
at the world conference now in
progress there. “I will put in a
lick or two for Hermiston if they
will seat me.” He writes further
that he is staying in China town
during his visit in San Francisco.
Mr. Burk, formerly in business in
Hermiston, now operates a store
in Stanfield.
Ray Shaw, Yeoman 3rd class,
will leave tonight (Thursday) for
San Diego. Calif., to report for re­
assignment following a month’s
leave spent in Hermiston with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Shaw.
Ray has been in the service about
20 months, seeing many parts of
the world while serving with the
U. S. Navy.
Paul Alvin Williams, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence E. Williams, has
enlisted in the U. S. Naval Re­
serve in Portland. He has been
placed on an inactive duty status
and will attend school in Hermis­
ton to await his call from the Na­
vy to active dutv. He was born at
T.a Grande and is now a senior in
Hermiston high school.
Henrv Wilson, who recently
suffered a heart attack in Denver.
Colo., where he had gone to at­
tend the funeral of a brother, is |

cording to word received here. |
Mrs. Wilson and daughter Phyllis |
have gone to Denver to be near
him. Although his condition was
considered verv critical for a time,
he is thought to be over the dan-
•er line now. It will be some
time, however, before he is able
to return home.
James N. Barbouletos of Uma­
tilla. well known in Hermiston,
was enlisted in the U. S. Naval
Reserve April 24 in Portland.
James is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Nick Barbouletos of Umatilla and
a sister of Miss Goldie Barboule­
tos. employed at the Farm Bureau
Mill. James this week was hon-
