COLUMBIA
GRANGE NOTES
The Home Economics club is
giving a pie social to be held on
the night of January 26th. The
friends of the Grange are welcome.
Fifty-eight members were pres­
ent at the regular meeting held on
Tuesday night.
Officers of the Grange met at
the club house Sunday night to
practice the initiation ritual.
The Home Economics club met
at the club house Friday with Mrs.
Tucker and Mrs. Peverley as hos­
tesses.
The Umatilla county Pomona
Grange will meet in Pendleton on
February 1st, in the Veterans of
Foreign War’s hall.
The Home Economics club has
recently purchased another war
bond.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Luttrell of
Ordnance spent Tuesday night
with Mr. and Mrs. Percy Corman,
so they could attend the Grange
meeting.
Thirteen new members were ad­
mitted to the order at the regular
meeting held Tuesday night.
COLUMBIA NEWS
A meeting of the North Colum­
bia Telephone company was held
at the Duff Knight home on Jan­
uary 11. Ten members were pres-
ent, representing seven families
using the line. Mrs. H. G. Mc­
Culley was elected chairman; Mrs.
Mabel Weeks, re-elected vice
chairman, and Mrs. Duff Knight as
secretary-treasurer. It was decid­
ed to buy 50 new cedar posts to re­
inforce the poles which are be­
coming weakened from rot.
Miss Joyce McCulley spent the
week end visiting friends in Boise
and Gooding, Idaho.
Rosemary Keller spent the night
with Ruth McCulley last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Krawl and
family, who formerly lived in the
Columbia district, spent Tuesday
at the Henry Wilson home.
Sgt. Albert Middlestadt, brother
of Mrs. George Liebe, has left for
the east coast for oversea duty.
Joe Udey made a business trip
to Lexington last Tuesday.
Rosalie Hammer and Ruth Mc­
Culley journed to Penleton and
Milton last Saturday. Mrs. Ham­
mer returned from Milton with
them.
Bob Pomeroy called at the Udey
home last Saturday.
Robert McLouth of Athena vis­
ited at the Bud Hooker home last
week. Mr. McLouth is Mrs. Hook­
er’s brother.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Fix spent Sun­
day afternoon at the Bill Mikesell
home
Mrs. Neil Armstrong left Sat­
urday night for Burns where her
mother is ill.
An electric pump and milk cool­
er are being installed at the Joe
Udey milking parlor this week.
Visitors at the Olyn Hodge resi­
dence the past few days were Miss
Joy Thanney of Dixie, Wash.; Mrs.
Marvin Hodge, mother of Mr.
Hodge of Seattle. Wash., and Mr.
and Mrs. George Storey and child­
ren of The Dalles.
Mrs. Alex Jones has returned
from Yuma, Colo., where she visit­
ed old friends and neighbors.
Wm. Parker is driving the Cold
Springs school bus during the time
the Harold Hunts are quarantined
because of scarlet fever.
W. R. McPheeter's of Nampa,
Idaho, spent Thursday night with
Mr and Mrs. Marian McPheeters.
He was on his way to The Dalles
to visit another brother who is
ill.Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hansen of Pa­
louse. Wash., visited Mrs. Mary
Harr, when returning from Grants
Pass. Mr. Hansen spent many
years in the home of the late Jack-
son Harr and Mrs. Harr when he
was a boy.
Word has been received from
Pfc. Keith H. Peverley, who was
recently stationed in England. He
remarked on some of the customs
which are different from ours,
among them left handed driving.
Mrs. Hattie Wyant is visiting at
the home of her brother. Wm. Par­
ker, and her mother, who also
makes her home here.
It is reported that Harold Keller
has been receiving treatment at
the Hermiston hospital for sinus
trouble.
Mr. and Mrs. Moosey of Port­
land have recently visited at the
