The year 1944 has been another successful
milestone in the progress of this association.
In spite of the many war-time restrictions and
other inconveniences, the creamery has en
joyed a fine business. This is due to the co-
operation shown by its members who have
remained loyal and faithful throughout the 12
months. The production of dairy products has
been difficult due to the shortage of help and
materials. The government realizes this and
feels greatly indebted to the farmers who
“feed the nation”.
WAR BONDS
Christmas comes but once a year, ’tis true, but
what a short year since we expected, beyond much
doubt, to celebrate this Christmas with peace in
Europe. The war clouds still hang heavily over
European battle fields to dampen our cheer at home.
But in the American way of taking it, we are making
the best of it, and there will still be lots of Christmas.
For months remembrances have been going across
to the boys on all fronts. This is our most heartfelt
joy. Then the never to be forgotten millions of child
ren with their glee for Santa Claus warms us with
happiness. Perhaps no other Christmas in our his-
tory is carrying more toys and other Christmas things
to our nation’s childhood because there is no want in
the land. The poor have more money, and charita
ble institutions have abundance to distribute to the
few needy and unfortunate.
And last, but not least, are all of us older grown.
The mail bags and transportation facilities are load
ed with presents for Mom and Dad, and Mary and
John. Even the holiday cards are still in the thou
sands from old friends, reminding us of former plea
sant associations which is always a joy. In spite of
general shortages there seems to be something nice
for everyone, if nothing more than a check or piece
of currency. All the evidences of Christmas are now
in full bloom while we still have the burden of the
world in a great war.
And why are we cheerful, though sad. Why are
we courageous and strong, though the ravages of
war cast shadows on our homes. Only this—our
cause is just, and we feel able to create good cheer
instead of gloom, because we are sustained by right
eousness. We are not unmindful of the deep sad
ness in many homes, or the terrific agonies of • the
battle fields and the hard future, but as true Ameri
cans we live better, work better, and fight better
with our hearts attuned to good cheer, happiness and
hope in things to come. With high morale we carry
on, and will carry on until peace is returned and a
cloudless Christmas may be celebrated. Our millions
of service men would have it so. We must have it so,
and so we say let Christmas be merry.
Once more children of every land look up, the
very Star of Bethlehem reflected in their eyes as
they hear the story of the infant Jesus. Once more
the parents of children, including the boys and girls
in uniform who are giving their all on the battle
front, pray that there shall be peace on earth—for
never before in all history has His lesson been more
worthy of repetition.
Good will toward men—let every man say it over
and over. Let it be instilled in the hearts of those
just learning the ways of life—let it be remembered
by all nations who are now at war.
NEW
YEAR
The creamery has many plans for the new
year and when the pages are turned in the
coming months, members of the association
will be proud and pleased with the new in
stallations, new improvements and new out
lets for dairy products. It has taken many
years of steady growth and staunch support
by loyal members to bring about these new
improvements. When completed the plant
will be one of the most modern in this entire
area. May the developments of the next 12
months bring about a still better association.
