Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Holmes of
Pendleton recently visited at the
home of their daughter, Mrs.
Jeppe.
Mr. and Mrs. Don DeMoss report
that their turkeys are of exception­
al weight and quality this year
and they are very busy filling or­
ders for Thanksgiving.
Roy and Wesley Townsend and
Dr. Lowell of Amity, Ore., have

returned from a hunting trip in the
Tollgate area. They were fortun­
ate in bagging both deer and elk.
Mrs. Lee Dyer has been called to
Caldwell, Idaho, because of the ill­
ness of her mother and on business
matters.
Willis Crampton, who is home
on furlough after spending many
•months in the Aleutians, was a din­
ner guest at the Henry Garberding
home.
Several Columbia district ladies
attended the Extension meeting at
the U. S. O. last week. They were
Mesdames Knight, McCulley, Wil­
son, Weeks and Bradshaw.
Lynn Easton and Willard Ober
of Boyd, Ore., were visitors at the
Bob Woodward home. While here
they enjoyed some pheasant hunt­
ing.
Mrs. R. B. Wilson and Mrs. Mc­
Culley spent Sunday at the Chas.
Keller home.
Lee Dyer reports that he is
swamped with upholstery and
mattress work.
Mr. and Mrs. Getchell, Mrs. Hen­
ry Wilson and Phyllis and Mrs. Me
Culley went to Pendleton on busi­
ness last Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Getchell re­
ceived word from their son, Corp.
Earl Getchell, that he has entered
a military school at his station in
Tampa, Florida.
The L. Hammer family spent
Monday evening at the Hugh Neill
residence. The occasion was a
surprise birthday dinner in honor
of Peggy Neill.

Mr. and Mrs. George Liebe re­
ceived word from their son, Pfc.
Walter Liebe, that he has com­
pletely recovered from wounds re­
ceived in action and now antici­
pates his return to his original
company.
E. Dunham, formerly of this
community but now in Elgin, Ore.,
is reported very ill.
Mr. and Mrs. Longely, who live
on the Reid place, have gone to
Pendleton for a few days visit.
Fred A. Lenz Jr. called at the
Reid home Saturday.
Mrs. Percy Corman is caring for
Mrs. Burnham’s granddaughter
while she and daughter Mary are
attending Buyers Week in Port­
land.
G. M. 3/c Lewis Wilson has gone
back to Treasure Island after an
extended stay in Shoemaker, Cal.
Mrs. Earl Chaney and daughter
Marilyn of Spokane were callers at
the H. A. Wilson home Saturday.
Mrs. Keller, mother of Mrs. Har­
old Keller, was hurried to the Wal­
la Walla hospital due to a serious
illness.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Udey are be­
ginning to think that their family
and farm have been affected by
the constellation of Caster and
Pollux, the Twins. In October
they became grandparents of
twins, and this last week a pair of
twin calves arrived.
A large number of neighbors at­
tended the farewell dinner at the
club house to honor Mr. and Mrs.
Epperson who are leaving for Cor­
vallis. A beautiful blanket was
given them and a jar of sand burs
was added as an after thought. As
they are going to a region entirely
devoid of those little “pets”, they
will not become lonesome for
them!
