Bp Mr». Rote Hedrick
Sgt. George Sale has recently
been heard from somewhere in
Italy. He has been in the service
four years and is in the Signal Air
service. His wife from Portland
spent the Armistice holidays here
with George’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. George Sale.
Mrs. Alfred Lantz and baby
daughter Judith Carol arrived Sat­
urday from Portland to spend the
winter here with her mother, Mrs.
Mabel Richards.
Mrs. Margaret Daughtrey was
guest of honor at a bridge dessert
on her birthday, November 10, at
the Refvem home and was present­
ed a sweater.
The Gospel Mission church here
held fellowship meeting and served
dinner and supper to probably 150
persons on November 7th. At six
o’clock Rev. and Mrs. Benintendi
were seated at the head of the
minister’s table and an attractive
feature was a candle-lighted birth­
day cake to honor the 23rd birth­
day of Mrs. Benintendi. About 12
ministers and families and many
members enjoyed the affair.
Mrs. William Behme accompan­
ied her brother and wife, Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Fedler to their home
at Ritter, Ore., for a week’s visit.
Mrs. Margaret Daughtrey and
Mrs. F. B. Stuart entertained at
dinner at the Don Childs home
Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. N. D. Bard
and Mr. and Mrs. M. Refvem.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lenz of
Westland district have purchased
the Robert Branson house on the
east side of town. Pvt. Lenz has
just returned from two years and
6 months service at Camp Rucker,
Okla., and was granted an honor­
able discharge. He is employed by
L. W. Dixon on the project.
Mrs Joe Waterman Sr. and Miss
Evelyn Waterman are visiting Joe
Waterman Jr. in the Marines at
San Diego. Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Michaels have
finished their work at Hanford and
are en route to California, travel­
ing with their nice trailer house,
and visited here a few days with
Mr. Michaels' parents.
Election here called forth 473
voters. The council was re-elect­
ed, as was the mayor, N. D. Bard.
The 6-mill tax levy measure for
post war community work also
carried.
Mrs. Kay Evans and Mrs. Alvin
May visited Miss Neva Hedrick in
Pendleton Monday.
The Girls League is busy on
plans for the Sixth War Loan Bond
Sale scheduled for Saturday, Nov­
ember 18.
Mrs.. U. G. Shipley (Sarah) was
honor guest at her farm home east
of town, November 15th, when her
daughter, Rachel Connor of Ar­
lington, sister, Mrs. L. Kenison of
Stanfield, Mrs. Charley Foxx, Mrs.
Ralph Bartley, all remembered her
on her 76th birthday.
Mrs. George Elliott is ill at her
home.
Mrs. Durant and family visited
at her old home at Heppner Sun-
day.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Gillanders
were Pendleton visitors Monday.
