Hopes That Russia May Reduce Prussia.
While our wishes father the thoughts that the war
is rapidly nearing an end, the facts do not support
our fond hopes and strong wishes. While we are
winning on all fronts, it is at terrible costs and a long
way yet to go to Berlin and Tokyo. We are slowly
gaining a wide battle front and bases for supplies in
Normandy but the power of the Germans is far from
broken. Step by step we advance in Italy but there
are big battles ahead before the Italian Peninsula is
taken. Our pride in our Pacific forces is great and
daily progress is made, but great bases must be es
tablished and long distances of ocean must be over-
come before we engage the Nippons in the last final
struggle in Asia.
Our greatest hopes rest on the continued progress of
the Russians. While the American and British forces
are scattered on many fronts, the Russian armies are
concentrating on one great push toward Prussia and
Berlin. Our prayers should be for the destruction of
the Prussian war lords, where war has been an occu
pation for centuries. Once they are eliminated the
causes of the last two wars will be removed and such
men as Hitler will not be allowed to rise again, as the
tool and leader of this mightiest war organization in
all history. If we can destroy these land lords and
barons and war lords and schooled generals in their
home nests of cruelty and mechanical science and
perfidy toward all human civilization, then the world
may rest more securely from their assaults, perhaps
for a thousand years, or a similar period in which
they have provoked the earth.
May the Lord bless Russia if she can bring Prussia
to these depths, and in reward may we deal kindly
with Russia when the victory is won.

This poster "Fire Away" shows a scene aboard the U. S. Submarine.
•Dorado.” The artist, the celebrated American painter Georges Schreiber,
has caught the action during the very tense moment before the passing
craft is identified as friend or foe.
The painting is authentic in every detail for the artist was actually
aboard the Submarine at sea. He ate and slept with the crew. He worked
with the men and stood watch with the officers. A short time after leaving
the Submarine, it was lost with all bonds.
