Warren Center, now superintendent
of schools at Joseph, has been elected
by the local board to succeed M E.
Larive at Echo. He was selected from
among 27 applicants for the position.
Mr. Center will act as superintendent
and handle physical education. He is
expected here in May to look over the
situation, but will not move his fam
ily here until later in the summer. He
is married and has two daughters, one
a junior in high school and one three
years old.
Mrs. Bonnie Wilcox, who has been
teaching in Echo school the past year,
has resigned and will go to Washing
ton. D. C., with her husband, who is

here on a furlough. Another teacher
to fill her position is expected to be
secured the first of next week.
Mrs. Arnie Pajari and son Earl of
Reedsport and Mrs. Harold Warren
and son Bill of Gardner spent the
week end here visiting their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Middleton, and
their brothers, Earl and Kieth Mid
dleton, who were home on furlough.
The family group was entertained at
dinner Friday by Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Middleton and Sunday at the B. B.
Middltton home. Mrs. Pajari re
turned home Sunday but Mrs. Warren
and son will remain here two weeks.
Earl Middleton returned to Camp
Ellis, Ill., and Kieth Middleton to
Buckley Field, Colorado, after spend
ing a furlough at their home in Echo.
Mrs. Ray Tolar, who has had a se-
vere cold on her lungs, is now im-
proved but still quite hoarse.
Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Meyers were
here from Portland last week to spend
two days on their farm east of Echo.

and expects to attend summer school
at La Grande.
Mrs. J. Frank Spinning, who has
been confined to her home by illness
the past week, is able to be out again.
Mrs. William Gorrell and son Dav
id who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Middleton the past two weeks are
now at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Sloan Thomson. Mr. Gor
rell is stationed at Santa Ana, Calif.
