Mrs. Nora Colpitts returned Mon-
day from a vacation trip spent with
relatives in California, Colorado and

nesday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kirkpatrick
and daughter of Seattle are visiting
Mrs. Kirkpatrick’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs- A. E. McCulley, and sister, Mrs.
A. E. Rugg.
L. F. Beaver returned home Friday
evening from a vacation trip to Los
Angeles, Calif. His sister. Mrs. Pa­
tricia Houck, and daughter Madelia
of Arcadia, Calif., came to Hermiston
with him.
Pfe. Oliver Knerr, who is stationed
with the U. S. army in Arizona, came
last week end to spend 10 days here
with his mother, Mrs. Floyd Knerr.
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Warner re-
turned home this week following a 10-
day stay in Vancouver at the home of
their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. E. P.
Schofield. Mr. Warner also spent
some time in Portland while there.
Mrs. Harriett Friday and Mrs.
Charlotte Rauch will entertain Thurs­
day (tonight) with a shower honoring
Miss Mabel Rauch who is being mar-
ried Sunday to Sgt. Douglas Watson
of Pendleton Field.

Word has been received by Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Alstott from their nephew,
Corp. Alvin Wolke, that he has been
promoted to tank commander. He is
stationed near Nashville, Tenn., and
still enjoys his work immensely. Wol-
,ke is a Hermiston boy.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Rust and in-
fant daughter were visitors of Mr.
jand Mrs. Tom Moore'and Mr. and
Mrs. O. H. Thompson of Irrigon, for
two days, returning home Sunday
evening. Sept. 19, to Vancouver.
Stanley W. Hodges, son of Mr. and
Mrs. H. H. Hodges of Hermiston, has
entered the Radio School at the
Charleston Navy Yard, S. C., for a
16 weeks’ course of training, the suc­
cessful completion of which will earn
him a petty officer rating in the Na-
vy.
Jack Hartman, cowboy of note in
eastern Oregon rodeo cicles, sustained
quite painful injuries Sunday while
members of the Trail Dusters were
maneuvering at the fairgrounds.
Jack’s horse reared over backwards,
falling on him. He was considerably
bruised about the head and shoulders.
