Mr. and Mrs. Van Arsdale are the
parents of a baby girl born March 28
at the local hospital.
Miss Beryl Loge and Mrs. Paul
Van Patten and little Micheal Harris
motored to La Grande Tuesday to
spend the day with relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Hageland
are thé parents of a baby born March
12 at the local hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Oviatt and
small daughter returned to Hermiston
this week after spending the past few
months in Portland.
Mr- and Mrs. N. E. Hammack are
the parents of a baby girl born to-
day (April 1) at the Hermiston hos
pital.
Melvin Smith, who was injured re
cently in a train accident at the UOD,
is greatly improved.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Becholt are med
ical patients at the Hermiston Gen
eral hospital.
Delbert H. Walpole, son of Rev. and
Mrs. J. K. Walpole of Boardman, has
begun training at the U. S. navy
training station at Farragut, Idaho,
as a signalman.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Arthur Thomp-
son are the parents of a baby girl
born March 25 at the Hermiston hos-
pital.
Dr. J. P. Stewart, Eye-sight Spec-
ialist of Pendleton, will be at the
Hermiston Hotel on Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Brown became
parents of a baby girl and Mr. and
Mrs. L. V. Bosch became the parents
of a baby girl March 27 at the local
hospital.
Louis Cross, eight years old. is a
patient at the Hermiston hospital and
is steadily improving.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Langenwalter
are the proud parents of a baby girl
born Monday in the Pendleton hospi
tal. The little tot weighed six pounds
at birth and has not been named as
yet.
Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Pierce received
word this week that their son, Gene,
has been promoted to First Lieuten
ant. He is stationed in Australia and
is enjoying the work although they
are kept extremely busy.
Mr. Connell, father of Mrs.‘Eric
Tapian and Mrs. R. L. Woolley, re
turned to his home in Forest Grove
Monday night.
Mr. and Mrs. K. D. Pierson have
received word from their son Bob,
that he has arrived safely in Austra
lia and that all is well. He was co-
pilot on the plane which carried them
over.
' Private Richard F. Cox, son of Mr.
and Mrs. I. C. Cox of Hermiston, is
enrolled at the University of Tulsa
for a course in Army Air Force in
struction which will last approximate
ly five months prior to his appoint
ment as an Aviation Cadet in the
Army Air Forces.

her home this week with flu.
Mrs. A. F. Rohrman is confined to
her home this week due to illness.
Melvin Fletcher was able to leave
the Hermiston hospital this week.
George Keyes was released from
the Hermiston hospital this week.

several days in Portland on business,
Mrs. S. A. Corneille was admitted
to the hospital March 28 for treat-
ment.
Bill Joslin of Baker began work this
week as barber at the Hermiston Bar
ber Shop.

parents of a baby girl born March 10
at the local hospital.
Miss Wanda Dunning began work
Wednesday at the Behrman Jewelry
store.
A baby girl was born to Mr. and
Mrs. A. N. Presnell Wednesday at the
local hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Alton Kingsbury left
for Portland Sunday to attend the
funeral of his grandmother Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. R. H. McAtee of
Prineville were houseguests at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. O. O. Felt
house, arriving Sunday and leaving
Wednesday. Mr. McAtee motored to
LaGrande on business while here.
Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Thompson are
the parents of a baby boy born March
15 at the Hermiston General hospital.
The little fellow weighed 71 pounds
and has been named Kenneth Eugene.
He is their second child.
Mr. and Mrs. Dayton Harris ac
companied by his brother, Guy Har
ris, motored to Seattle on business
Sunday. They plan to remain a week
in Seattle. Little Micheal is spending
the week visiting his uncle and aunt.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Van Patten.
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Warner re
turned Thursday from a two weeks
visit in Portand and Vancouver. At
the latter place they visited their
daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. E.
P. Schofield. Mr. Warner also took
some treatments in Portland.
Word came by telegram last Thurs
day to Rev. and Mrs. J. W. Stuart
and Roland from their son and broth
er. Chester, who is in Signal Train
ing School at Davis, Cal., of the pro
motion from private to corporal tech
nician (5th grade).
Mr. and Mrs. Archie Campbell are
moving this week to their farm east
of Pendleton where they own an ex
tensive herd of cattle. Mr. Campbell
has been employed at the Umatilla
Ordnance Depot and Mrs. Campbell
(Vivian) has been employed at the
Behrman Jewelry store.
Nick Steiner received word from
his son. PFC E. N. Steiner, that he is
enjoying his work with the armed
forces overseas. Although it is not
certain, it is thought that he is in the
New Guinea region. He states that
things are pretty tough over there but
is more concerned about the conditions
of affairs in the United States.
Mr. and Mrs. Preston Hollomon
have received word from their son,
Aviation Cadet Ray Hollomon. that
he has completed three months train
ing at St. Marys and is now stationed
at Los Alamitos, Calif., for primary
training. He states that the navy
does not waste any time preparing the
youths for action and that they are
kept extremely busy.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Williams, has
enrolled in the enlisted reserve corps
of the women’s army, according to
Portland's WAAC recruiting head
quarters. She will be called to active
duty with the women’s army at the
conclusion of the school term at Uma-
grade school

CLEANUP DAY AT
PARK SCHEDULED
The annual cleanup day for Colum
bia park has been set for Wednesday,
April 7, when the ladies of the Farm
Bureau Auxiliary hope to have a good
attendance of Farm Bureau members
and others who would assist in getting
the grounds in condition for the sum
mer season. The clean-up is expected
to take the entire day and the ladies
will serve a potluck dinner at noon
Workers should provide their own
tools, such as rakes, shovels, pitch-
forks and axes. Water has been piped
to the club building and grounds and
the park is generally used throughout
the summer by picnickers.
