of the accidental death of Harold
Sullivan of Portland by monoxide
poisoning. Mr. Sullivan is a brother
of Mrs. Dave Mittlesdorf and a for­
mer resident of Hermiston. Accord­
ing to the information Mr. Sullivan
was lying underneath his car in the
garage with the motor running and
the door partially closed. Mr. and
Mrs. Mittlesdorf left Wednesday for
Portland.

Sunday will be observed in the local
Methodist church this Sunday, Octo­
ber 4th, with special services. In the
Hermiston Methodist church the spec­
ial observance will take place during
the morning worship service at 11
o’clock. At that time a Service Ban­
ner honoring the men from the local
Methodist church who are serving in
the armed forces of our country will
be dedicated, along with a Service
Roll of Honor. The men to be so
honored are as follows: Wayne Cas­
seday, Don C. DeMoss, Harvey De­
Moss, Lester Flannigan, Alvin Gett-
man, Gilbert Gettmann, Raymond
Holloman, Max Leonard, Ralph Mar­
ble, Robert E. Pierson, George P.
Sale, Jr., Asa Shaw, Lee Shaw, Don
H. Sherwood and Orris Steward.
Also during the service a special
message from the resident bishop,
Bruce R. Baxter, will be read. An
offering for the Fellowship of Suf­
fering and Service will be received.
This offering goes for overseas re­
lief and to the Commission on Camp
Activities and Chaplains.
Before the celebration of the sac­
rament of Holy Communion an op­
portunity will be given the members
of the congregation to pledge them­
selves to attend at least one service
of worship each week for the dura­
tion of the war as proof to the boys
in service that the people at home
are willing to do their part as well
as those who are in the armed forces.
In the Echo Methodist church a
special program will be sponsored by
the Girls’ League at 11 o’clock in the
morning, A basket dinner will be
served in the church dining room at
noon. At two o'clock the sacrament
of Holy Communion will be celebra­
ted and the message from the bishop
read, and the offering for the Fel­
lowship of Suffering and Service
will be received. At three o’clock
motion pictures will be shown the
Methodist Youth Fellowship.
Similar services will be held in all
Methodist churches throughout the
world on his same day, states Rev.
Ballinger.
