turned to their ranch west of Her
miston this week to reside there for
the summer months: Col. and Mrs.
Jordan spend the (winter months at
their Los Angeles home.
Miss Wilma Jean Cargill of Koos-
kia. Idaho, spent the week end at the
home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
W. F. Cargill. Mrs. Cargill returned
with her and will remain for a week’s
visit.
Word was received by Mrs. Tom
Stewart that her son Tom had been
transferred to a machinist school of
a U. S. Submarine base. He states
that he is fine and well, and likes his
work very much.
Lt. and Mrs. Price left for Port
land today (Thursday) after having
spent the past two days here visit-
I ing friends on their way home from
a trip into Idaho. Lt. Price was for-
| merly an officer stationed at the
| Ordnance Depot.
Mrs. Eugene Beitel of Sand Point,
Idaho, visited with her sister-in-law,
Mrs. Twig Hinkle. Tuesday and Wed-
| nesday. She was on her way to As
toria to join her husband who is em
ployed there.
Mrs. N. W. O'Donnell was hostess
at two bridge parties last week, with
Mrs. Tom Fraser and Mrs. A. E.
I Bensel winning the prizes Wednes-
| day. Thursday Mrs. W. M. Pear-
son and Mrs. Gwynn Hughes took the
high and low prizes, respectively.
Mr. and Mrs. Eric Storgard, who
have been stationed near Eugene,
were overnight guests Wednesday at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Payne. They were en route to Wal
la Walla where he will be stationed.
Gene Rugg and Bernie Cullen left
Wednesday for Edgemont, So. Dak.,
where they expect to work for J. A.
Terteling * Sons on construction of
an ordnance depot. Gene is a 1941
| graduate of Hermiston high school
| while Bernie is graduating this year.
The latter was an all-round star ath-
| lete this year.
Mrs. W. D. Alexander and Mrs.
Iverson held a lovely dessert bridge
party on Tuesday of this week. The
rooms were decorated with many
flowers and high scoring guests wore
pansy corsages. High score for the
day went to Mrs. F. B. Belt, and
consolation to Mrs. W. L. Morgan
and Frances Samóla received the
traveling prize.
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Koon passed
through here Tuesday on their way
to Spokane. They expect to return
tonight (Thursday) where Mrs. Koon
will stay until Sunday while Mr. Koon
will attend a water-works conven-
tion in Walla Walla. They will re
turn to their home in Portland Sun
day.
