The county road maintenance crew
has been doing some much-needed
grading and clean-up work on the
county roads in this district during
the past week.
Mrs. A. H. Cable reports that the
mobilization of women in this dis­
trict will be continued as soon as
more legistration blanks are avail­
able. Mrs. J. Jendrzejewski has
completed the work in her section
and Mrs. B. Hutchison has covered
most of her territory, but the other
workers have not been able to do
theirs because of the lack of blanks.
Mrs. Duane Lathrop, who for sev­
eral weeks was in a very critical
condition, is now reported to be
slowly improving. Mr. Lathrop will
spend the week end at The Dalles
with her.
Helen Jendrzejewski spent the
week end at home from La Grande.
Mrs. H. J. Ott returned home Sun­
day from John Day. She was ac­
companied home by her daughter,
Mrs. Willard Stratton (Edna Ott)
and small daughter Janice.
Mrs. Laura Morris, who is teach­
ing in Fossil, was here during the
week end to look after her property.
Mrs. Carl Hammer is planning to
leave Saturday for Susanville, Cal.,
to join her husband who has been
there several weeks. She will be
employed with Mr. Hammer in a
Labor office there. The two child­
ren. Carole and Dick, will remain
here at the Lester Hammer home
until the end of the school term.
Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Douglas were

and Patricia were Sunday visitors at
the Baxter Hutchison home from
Pendleton.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Boylen, for­
mer residents of this district and
now of Salem, were visiting friends
in this neighborhood last Saturday
afternoon.
It is reported that W. Nebergall
has been in quite ill health the past
few weeks.
Arthur Greer of Boiling Point,
who is employed at the ordnance de­
pot. is a new resident at the Mabel
Weeks home.
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Curtis moved
this week to the larger house on the
Reid property, known as the Knap­
ton place.
Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Wilkes and
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Seeley were
guests at the Christley home last
