1942 COMMERCIAL CLUB
The Hermiston Commercial Club will meet next
Tuesday noon at the U.S.O. building at a luncheon
to reorganize its work for the coming year. These
noon luncheons were formerly conducted with great
success and can be so again if business men will take
that hour off in the interest of public welfare.
Last year the community was donated a great vol
ume of business but 1942 does not offer such a gift,
without at least some public enterprise. The town
is on its way forward and many things can be added
to its growth and business development which in to
tal sum will continue its prosperity. The efforts of
the Commercial Club and its new officers should be
supported by 100 or more business men who will be
directly interested.
This work should not be left to a few leaders. No
citizen should lay off and trust to a few to do the
work. This is no place for drones. No town ever
just grows. It grows by the force and industry, and
public enthusiasm of its citizens. Whatever its re
sources and possibilities, they will perish without
conceited work through such an organization as our
Commercial Club.
These few remarks are directed at you and you,
who have a coffee shop or camp cabin, and those
who have the biggest businesses in town. Whatever
is done to advance the growth is directly or indirect
ly for your good and it is your manly or womanly
part to help boost things along. Any improvements
in buildings, roadways, agriculture and industry

Again we must emphasize that there is a good

the best of the new opportunities in sight, and also
keep an eye on the future. Whatever we do this
year will contribute to that of next year, and the
