PINE CITY NEWS
By Mrs. Bernice Wattenburger
A large number from Pine City at
tended the dance at Lena Saturday
evening and reported a good time.
Clyde Dixson held the lucky number
on the cedar chest that was given
away.
Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Wattenburger
spent the week end in Long Creek
with Mr. and Mrs. Reid Busieck and
family.
Jim Daley had the misfortune to
get kicked by a car and walking has
proved a difficulty to him.
Mr. and Mrs. Dale Akens and
family of Hamilton spent Monday
night, and Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs.
E. B. Wattenburger.
The party planned for Saturday
evening, December 13, has been called
off.
Harold Wilkins, Jasper Myers, Mr
and Mrs. E. B. Wattenburger and
Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Wattenburger
were Pendleton shoppers Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Ayers were
Pendleton callers Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Moore and
son left Saturday for a week’s trip
to Rainier and Seattle to .visit their
parents.
At the wheat league meeting these
lambs were graded by R. L. Clark of
the Bodine and Clark Commission
Firm Portland, into three groups.
The best group, or blue group, the
red group and a green group.
These lambs were sold at Portland
Monday to a San Francisco buyer
and the blue group lambs topped the
market at $10.75 per hundred. The
red group sold for $9.85 and the
green group lambs sold for $9.00.
All the boys who fed these lambs
were guests of the Eastern Oregon
Wheat League, Portland Chamber of
Commerce, and the Portland Union
Stockyards on Tuesday and Wednes
day of this week. The boys were
taken through Swift & Co. plant and
shown slaughter operations from
start to finish on all classes of live-
stock. Because of the national emer
gency, this group was the last one to
visit Swift & Co.’s plant until the
national emergency is over. '
UMATILLA YOUTHS
WIN AT HEPPNER
Two Umatilla county boys, Phillip
Hoon, Milton, and Harold Smith, Pi
lot Rock, were the exhibitors of the
best pens of lambs fed in the con
test sponsored by the Eastern Oregon
Wheat League at Heppner, December
5 and 6. Glen Wilcox, of Hermiston,
also exhibited a fine pen of lambs.
