some pleasant fall weather. Several
nights of freezing weather were re-
ported last week and residents were
beginning to take in gladioli bulbs
and otherwise repare for the winter
months.

Harold Regele, principal of Uma­
tilla schools, is announcing a basket­
ball clinic for next Monday night at
7:30 in the Umatilla high school gym­
nasium. New rules and interpreta­
tions will be discussed during the eve­
ning.
School superintendents, coaches and
referees are cordially invited to at­
tend the session.
Clifford L. Smith, Assistant Coun­
ty Agent Leader, spent one day in
Hermiston discussing business with
the Assistant County Agent, Gene
Lear, Tuesday, November 4.
Mr. Smith has rescently been ap­
pointed Assistant County Agent Lead­
er to assist the central office with
the added responsibilities that have
been delegated to the Extension Ser­
vice relative to national defense and
land use planning. Before Mr. Smith’s
appointment, he was Assistant Agri­
cultural Marketing Specialist at Ore­
gon State College.
