THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1941 MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAg SEED PRODUCTION LAXD SALE NOTICE FOR OREGON LAST YEAR SETS RECORD Detailed figures just issued by counties and districts show that Ore gon harvested in 19 40 the greatest crop of forage seeds in its history, which brought farmers of the state a total cash income of at least $6 8,600, compared with $4,854,- 000 in 1939. The figures are contain ed in a new extension circular No. 375, “Forage Seed Crops, 1940,” is sued by the O.S.C. extension service in cooperation with the United States department of agriculture. The marked increase in seed pro duction last year was caused mostly by the sharp expansion in acreage of winter legumes for cover crop seed purposes, although important in creases were registered in several kinds of grass and clover seeds. The only seed crop of importance showing a delcine in acreage was reti clover. The widespread production of for age crop seeds in Oregon is empha sized by the fact that county statis tics show that the leadership in the various seeds is scattered among many counties, both east and wes? of the Cascades. Washington county led in the pro duction of Austrian winter pea seed, with a cash income of $392,300 out of a state total of $1,335,000. In hairy vetch production Yamhill county top ped the list with a cash income of $387,000 out of a state total of $1,630,000. Polk county led in the production of common vetch, while Douglas county produced most out side of the Willamette valley. In alsike clover Klamath county is far in the lead with a cash income of $228,500 out of a state total of $500,000. Linn county led in west ern Oregon. Josephine is the biggest ladino clover seed producer with $94,- 000 cash income. Other county leaders are crimson clover, Clackamas county; alfalfa, Malheur county; ryegrass. Linn coun ty; chewings fescue and tall fescue. Marion county, and bent grass, Clat sop county. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Berger and family are spending their vacation at Bonneville. Dale Russel is serving at Messner in his place. Mr. and Mrs. Simile “nd family, and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Millicacci visited friends and relatives over the week-end, returning to Portland Mon day afternoon. Roy and Elbert Fisher were here from Pendleton Monday. Ralph McCutchen came from Walla Walla Sunday to stay at the Fisher home and attend school for the com- ing year. The regular council dinner was held at the Community church after services Sunday. The date for Rally day was discussed and plans made.
