PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION
LET’S GO TO THE FAIR
And now it is the County Fair. In the midst of a
great effort to build a storage reservoir for munitions
in national defense we pause to honor agriculture.
Men cannot use the powder in the front ranks of
battle or on sea or from the air unless they are well
fed from the ranks behind the lines. So in honor of
a complete defense of our country let us pay our re-
spects to the graneries of supplies from the farm.
The exhibits of all kinds will be good and the en
tertainment is promised as the best ever given at the
grounds. The few days will furnish cause and occas
ion for recreation and pleasure and a pause from the
steady thought and work of the big program being
carried forward in our midst.
It marks the end also of a summer season and the
beginning of the pleasant autumn season so common
here.
It is remarkable that the fair can be held when so
many of the able bodied men of the farm areas are
working at the Umatilla Ordnance Depot. Rut the
spirit of the people has kept strong for farm produc-
tion and the Fair Board has worked unceasingly
against odds to produce a good show and their ef
forts should be rewarded by a good attendance and
support of a gala day at the change of seasons.
So let’s be good Americans and good citizens and
take a good look at the big pumpkins, real vegetables
and fine cattle and other livestock and all those flow
ers and fancy work displayed by the thrifty women
of the farm and town.
