NEW CALF CLUB
AT STANFIELD
A new 4-H Dairy Calf club was
organized at the home of Mrs. Virgil
Hogg in the Stanfield community last
Monday evening. This is the first
agricultural 4-H club to be formed
in this community for several years.
Officers of the club are Bill Gil
bert, president; Alida Picanso, vice
president: Jim Hogg, secretary; and
Junior Brown, reporter. The other
members of the club are Francis
Stephens, Andrew Lamont, Jim La
mont, Virginia Picanso, Elaine Hogg,
Wendel Hogg, and Jim Quinn. Mrs.
Virgil Hogg is to be the leader.

Lawrence Jenkins, weed specialist
from Oregon State college, before a
large group ol farmers in the Stan
field Grange hall Tuesday night. Mr.
Jenkins had spent the day surveying
weed areas in the west end of the
county and expressed alarm at the i
growth in size of some areas since his
last visit. This district may soon
find itself in the position of certain
areas in other states where large
acreages have been abandoned and
taken off the tax rolls because of
noxious weed infestations, Jenkins
said.
Control measures which have al
ready been undertaken were outlined
by Assistant County Agent M. E.
Knickerbocker, who explained that
Umatilla county has had a tractor
