manager of the Emerald, University
publication, and outstanding high
school journalists of the state.
A highlight of the program was
the annual banquet Friday evening
at the Osborne Hotel.
Saturday morning, following an
address by Palmer Hoyt, publisher of
the Oregonian, the presentation of
awards was made. The winners in­
cluded: Grants Pass, best news notes
in local paper; Vernonia and Carl­
ton, best mimeographed papers: Pen­
dleton, best paper for schools of un­
der 500; Franklin High, Portland,
best school of over 500. The Lincoln
High Cardinal was awarded the Ar­
nold Bennett Hall cup for the best
all around paper in the state.
During the conference the dele­
gates were guests of sorority and
fraternity houses on the campus. The
Hermiston representatives returned
Sunday night and reported a very
enjoyable and worthwhile trip.
