During the closing days of the primary campaign
voters become nonplussed as to the merits of this
candidate and the other. Last minute speeches and
literature dwell at length on promises of the various
office seekers. To us the office of representative in
the state legislature is one of the most important to
be considered in the coming primaries.
The session next January will have many new and
perplexing questions to deal with. Some of these are
statewide but practically all will affect the citizens
of this county in some way or other. Always there
are dairy and poultry and other farm bills which
pertain directly to us in eastern Oregon.
Other problems which will be considered include
transportation measures, new methods proposed for
dealing with electrical affairs, bills relative to river
and port matters, pensions, schools, and the ever re
curring problem of roads and highways. Scores of
amendments to existing laws will be made in re
gards to new uses of taxes.
This district and the entire county need men of
experience and practical knowledge of these sub
jects to insure careful legislation and who will study
each measure as to its effects on the various interests
of this legislative district.
It is indeed fortunate that Elmer P. Dodd has con
sented to make the race for state legislator from this
district. No other man is available whose scope of
knowledge of all these matters is so complete. Every
voter in the west part of the county should go to the
polls on Primary day to secure his election.
“All that I am, and all that I ever hope to be, I
owe to my darling Mother.”
