U n ite o r Perish
By C. E. BANNING
Out of the welter of rumors, claim», lies and propaganda com
ing to us from the flaming fronts of Europe one message stands
out so that however dull we may be we cannot misunderstand, and
however skeptical we cannot but believe. Unite or perish!
Hardworking, thrifty, honest peoples are not able to stand alone
when ruthless aggression is abroad in the world.
Is there no lesson here for us as individuals? To be honest, cap
able, thrifty and industrious is not enough in world affairs, neith
er is it enough in individual affairs. The business struggle for
the divisible p art of our income is as ruthless and unregulated in
many respects as the European war. The taking over of our pro
perty and resources is as relentless and complete as any conquest,
even though less spectacular.
Will we stand alone and trust in the kindness and fairness of
larger and more powerful forces or will we unite and safeguard
our interests and use the profits we now scatter among so many
agencies to build up our own position?

Shoes for the Entire Family
"For whosoever will save his life
shall lose it: but whosoever shall lose
his life for my sake and the gospel’s,
the same shall save it.” This famous
paradox of Jesus works the same to
j day as it did in that day. The Dead
Sea is dead because it takes in every
thing that comes to it but never gives
anything out. We shall think about
these eternal truths in our Sunday
morning service.
Our topic for Sunday evening will
be “Five Fools.” Sometimes it pays
to be a fool—other times it does not.
Services at the usual hours.
